Yep, driving to work this morning I blew one of my rear tyres. I suspect this was a result of the tyre being deflated due to a slow leak. It's often difficult to tell when it low because of the low profile. Anyway, I need 2 new ones for the rear. The one I had on there were 275 30 18 (Bridgestone RE01) so now I'm thinking 285, 30, 18 So does anyone know what are my options are, or can recomend something? I know the choices are limited with wide tyres.
Yoko's - good, bit harder compound, about $600 odd for 285/30/18 Nankang - crap, about $450 odd for 285/30/8 Pzero assemetrico - good, softer than the yoko, but good all round tyre, about $800 odd for 285/30/18 Pzero rosso - softer than the assemetrico, more grip, won't last long , again about $800 odd for 285/30/18 Michelin Pilot - v.soft compound, won't last on your rears if you have a heavy foot and again about $800 for 285/30/18 These are rough prices, and individual tyres.
Bigger tyres.... John, didn't your rear tyres scrub on your guard ? Fitting larger tyres will only compound the problem, or have you done some mods to rectify ?
Are those prices per tyre?"individual tyres"My tyres were 300 each, and i thought that was a bit rich.
forum tyre guru "roi" may be able to do you a deal ..?? .. he has a "hot prices" thread currently on the forum ....
Man am I glad I bought 17*8 and 17*9 inch rims. I don't think I'd be able to afford good 285 wide tyres on an 18 inch rim. They'd send me broke. I have Nankangs 255/17 on the rear atm. Considering Rik gave me a pretty sweet deal on them, they are pretty decent for what I paid. Next time tyres are due I'll probably go for the Bob Jane Maxxis MA-Z1's as many people have recomended them and dollar for dollar they seem to be a really good tyre.
Bigass tyres cost bigass money. I have just had to replace my rears which are 275/35/18... Going for the Hankook K104s which ar bout $450 a pop. Amazing how much extra an inch or so of rubber is worth...
Why not try a set of...........No, I'm not even going to mention them again...I'm just going to keep using them(confident in the knowledge that they cost about the same price for a FULL SET, as some of those other brands cost for just one tyre....and "they stick like **** to a blanket").
Has anyone tried dunlop direzza(spelling???) tyres? Also what size rim are you running to squeeze a 285 on there and what offset?
