Hey everyone. . . . check this dyno chart The motor from the factory makes 205hp . . . . which probably equates to around 150hp at the wheels, mine is making only 130hp at the wheels - AFTER a 2.5" catback. Also, i have a intake, running +4lbs of boost over standard and the exhaust. The topend is nearly exactly the same as without the exhaust, what is going on here? These are not typical results. Most people see 200hp at the wheels after these mods. Can somebody please offer an explanation to the problem. Btw, the car also has a FMIC (stock) and the ignition seems to be be all good. . . anyone?????
So your problem is that..... when you replaced your exhaust you got only a small gain? Sounds fairly typical to me. Your car doesnt make that much HP, there is only probably a small gain to be made even with no exhaust at all. As for why you car is making under the power you think it should, jeez where to start? Check error codes, compression and/or leakdown test, check for boost leaks, turbo problems etc etc etc.
Max at factory 205 less 30% for Auto = 143.5 when new How many km on your engine? At 130.93 thats only about 10% down on a new engine.
From my experience with these motors.... and for that matter any turbo motor, is that running a cat back exhaust is like a noise maker system... can be loud but really doesn't do shit. The main idea of an exhaust system (on a turbo car) is to increase the flow of exhaust gases after passing through the turbo.. 2.5inch is almost stock size, and only cat back... and no high flow cat... Recommend: Full turbos back (incl. dumps), high flow cat(s), max diameter (3inch plus!!) and then the power may increase a bit more than you would've expected... P.S. Best to speak to www.supraforums.com.au as the MKIII Supras had a 1G-GTE engine... Post this there and you should get some more useful answers. Rather than a 300ZX forum, which has no association with these motors.
I went to a soarer dyno day in melbourne and the average dyno was only abou t 150rwkw from memory. These cars were running about 10psi, full exhausts, FMIC 'aftermarket', pod and a few other little things. I also ran my Z on the same dyno and at the time got over 220rwkw so it wasn't the dyno reading wrong because I get that or near that on every dyno I have used. Your figure doesn't seem to far off when comparing them to other soarers with more mods. You should also try posting on the aussie soarer forum, it is fairly large and helpful
Re: I went to a soarer dyno day in melbourne and the average dyno was only abou ahaha you showed them up :thumbsup:
Ahh yeah - Brad, thats what the Error codes give. Ahh yeah 150rwkw is about right, im making less than 100rwkw with catback and boost. And a catback on a GZ20 is supposed to give +20hp, which is totally believable if u see the standard exhaust. . . two heavily baffled mufflers and a wonky and non-circular 2.25" pipe. Btw, i would try the Australain Soarer Forum, but they are mostly late model soarers with 1jz motors, mine is the older model. 3hp can't possible be a typical gain!!
