Battery Drain when Key Out

Battery seems a little weaker this morning and it hasn't been switched on for 2 days. Now before the rebuild, if I didn't switch the car on for about a week, it was difficult to start the next time I turned the key.

It seems the same issue is persisting after the rebuild so I'm going to address it now. I checked how much current is being drained with the key off, and it seems to be in the 60-70mA range. I do not know if this is normal for a Zed so thats why I'm here. Does anyone know what a good reading should be?

I was under the impression 30mA or below with the key off is good, but I don't think that figure is Zed specific.

    What things are installed?
Antitheft alarm, Stereo headunit. these have a small permanent power supply.
    Don't know the current draw.

What sort of battery? lead acid, calcium, sealed.
One of the cells might be a bit low on acid which will cause a battery to act weak.

  3. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

How old is the battery Emile? Something around 0.10 on the multimeter is healthy.

Just the usual crap installed, nothing special.

Brand new Lead Acid, just a standard Car Battery.

I just bought it before I started cranking, brand new 620CCA top of the line, Century Ultra Plus I think.

And what is that scale? Do you mean 100mA?

Embarrassingly enough I know what to look out for on the multimeter, but not what that readout actually is...

Grab a multi meter and look for power drain. The easiest way is to start pulling fuses until the drain stops as it is the quickest way to narrow it down then go from there. Get a hand if you need it as it can be frustrating chasing these bugs. There was a write up about how to do it so maybe search the tech section.

I know that much, I have no problems on how to suss out what is sucking power. But before I start looking I just want to know what a good figure to aim for is...

Emile i had the same issue, found out it was the way the stereo was wired up, and the Amp was the culprit , try disconnecting the amp via the circuit breaker switch attached to the pax firewall about 5-6 inches from the battery.

I haven't gotten around to checking it out, today was just SMIC Ducts, Driveshaft, Gearbox Mount and Fenders, Brakes (and bleeding) Tyres and dropping it onto the ground for the first time to move on its own since I first stripped her... haven't gotten around to checking out the drain issue, was more curious what a good figure was mostly.

Uploading some pictures now in my thread.

The convertible draws about 60-70mA and drains the battery if it does not get used every weekend.

Silver draws about 17mA and can survive a month or so.

One of these days I'll start pulling fuses. For now, I installed a battery switch so I can easily disconnect the battery.

I have found that when the battery goes flat, you need to charge it for at least 24 hours for the battery charge indicator to go green.
