Hi i own a 1991 non turbo 2seater 300zx that has a transmission problem is constantly shifts from 3rd to overdrive and seems to flick between those 2 ratios without me changing rpm it seems to shift smoothly up to 3rd but then start flicking between overdrive i spend most of the time in 3rd gear rarely stays in 4th for too long i am only getting 300km out of a fuel tank although i am driving the car very slowly can anyone please help me?
Hi Mine was doing this for a while aswell, first things you should check are the TPS, check your fault codes and make sure it is set, ie. the voltage is correct and check the TPS plugs, they get corroded, clean them and then test drive, there are 3 plugs which go to your tranny clean these aswell. If this does not fix the problem then yes it is time for a service, my bet would be the shift solenoids but this is a job best left to the professionals, what a PITA, took me a full day with the tranny still in the car and then I still stuffed up by not putting enough fluid back in. The way to check your auto tranny fault codes can be found in the tech section and is not that hard just count the light flashes. Hope this helps, Andy
I had a guy by the name of beaver who knows alot more than me he set up new tps not sure about transmission plugs?
