I am needing to remove the leather handle from an later model automatic shifter
Concern being the shift button and o/d button on side being spring loaded and any wiring ?
I am wondering what the process is and if there are any steps in the removal process that require special attention ?
Many thanks for comments on past experience and or pics

Two large and one small Phillips screws are on the back to release the handle.

The springs come out with the selector buttons themselves

You cannot lift the handle shaft off the internal shaft until you disconnect the electrical loom for the selector buttons (OD and release) - watch you do not break the selector indication tab made of plastic (the red mark that lines up when you select a gear position

Its a tricky job - best tip is to reassemble as you go to ensure the buttons and springs are reorientated the correct way before moving onto the next part

You might need to download these so you can orientate them.

I would not advise doing this in car ! (just in case you were even remotely thinking of it - see pics why - lol)

Ideally you need to remove parts of the trimming and the four bracket bolts to the floor housing and then undo the selector underneath the car to remove the entire gear selector

It's a fiddly job as you can see, so doing at a do it at a table, piece by piece and separating parts is ideal to get it done properly. Take pics and tag bits as you go if you need to - its basically as I explained earlier.

Don't worry about the springs as there not under that much tension - just worry about the selector tab (being a piece of red plastic) and make sure you get all the connections.

PITA Job - but if you set yourself up properly - you can do it no problems

Don't let the flaps - selector face/ panel covers move around on the stalk! This can break the tab - look closely when removing in between them before trying to pry anything, this way you can see how fragile the red selector tab is and how to secure it first before moving on.

You can see the wiring in the next shot with one connector to the bottom left and wiring lines next to the shaft
