As in if you run an auto ECU in a manual zed is it supposed to work the same, or does it operate differently ?
Reason I ask is I bought an ecu off a member ages ago, believe it was from an auto TT.
I tried it of course, and it seemed to rev out at a lot lower kmph.
Is that normal, or maybe my clutch is slipping now...
The ECU is also socketed, with unknown chip in it...
    Any light shed is appreciated

    Cheers :zlove:

*edit* zed is in bits on the garage floor atm so haven't got around to trying different combos as yet...

Well the ecu has no effect on gear ratio's, so it has no way of causing the symptoms you describe.

The auto ecu will work on a manual car , it only has a few minor differences.

It should be pretty obvious if your clutch is slipping. Once the torque builds it will slip and rev out.

Auto ECU works fine. The only thing is it will throw and error code saying it can't find the auto box. Most of the Jap socketed ECU's (name brands like Mines, Veilside Blitz etc) are auto's because they bring in the VCT a bit earlier than the manuals

You can bring VTC in at anytime you choose. It's just a cell on the eprom that gets changed. I can't imagine that would be a reason they use an auto ecu over a manual.

Common tuning technique. Do a dyno run with VTC off for the whole rpm, do a run with VTC on for the whole run. Overlap the graphs and see where the power band crosses, that's where you turn it on.

I dont know about an Auto ECU in a Manual ......

    but...

A Manual ECU in an auto ZX dont play nice !
( it will have heaps of issues finding overdrive etc )

    Kingy

    p/s
I have 2 spare ECU's to suit a manual ZX

If you put an Auto ECU in a manual car. The measured timing will not be right. You have to connect consult then adjust the CAS till the timing on consult says 15 degrees. Then it is set correctly.

The timing light will say around 28 degrees. BUT IT IT SET CORRECTLY.

Apart from throwing an error code cause no auto is there, it will run fine.

    correct teky.

u can ground the neutral switch and it works fine !!! ..

auto ecu in a manual is cool

manual ecu in a auto= chaos

Ok, thanks for the info , sounds like its no real drama then.

I don't have consult, however I do have data scan 1.52 floating around somewhere, but I haven't used it for ages.
data scan will show the timing won't it ?
from reading another thread its my understanding that data scan will show 15 degrees always, if you haven't altered it (I haven't )
Is that just a quirk of the program or is it set at 15 stock anyway ?

Also what do the dials on the backs of the ecu do ?

    (yes I searched)

    Thanks

hehe just 2 confuse u some more. you know that if your ecu is socketed. you can actually put a manual chip in a auto ecu.. the ECUS are defined by what chip is installed!

    Thats excellent news :)
I was under the false impression that the other gizomos in the ecu were different in manuals and autos.
I bought the spare ecu so when I get around to having the car tuned I'd have a back up original in case I needed it .
Cheers for that, now I can rest easy lol
