I've recently done the timing on the car to 10° BTDC. but the trouble was happening before that, It's been happening since I bought the car.

The car idols fine, and drives fine, only issue being 400km of fuel to the tank and it shifts a little dodgey. Only things I've done recently are service the transition with new filter and oil, new radiator and coolant and new fuel filter.

When i accelerate from stop position the car splutters a bit, almost stalls then takes off normally, like there is too much or too little fuel, something along those lines.

does anyone have any idea of what it could be?

check your tps voltage, make sure all vacuum lines are connected, check oil level, pcv valves, and you might of retarded your timing too much. my car doesnt run properly unless its at about 20-25 degrees. I have a 2+2 auto n/a

For the fuel economy issues check the tech section. 400kms is not awful but not great either... I have heard of people getting as low as only 250km from a full tank!!! Also, it depends if you get 400km running it right down to empty (You still got about 12L left even after the light goes on) or if you are just talking about until the fuel light comes on, in which case 400 isn't too bad depending on how hard you drive.

I replaced vac lines and did some other maintenance in my NA and went from 300-350km/tank to 450-500km/tank. And thats filling up when the light goes on, not right down to empty. Grab some new vacc lines from Caz... Cost hardly anything and can make a big difference. Also check your o2 sensors mate :D

Also the stalling thing you mentioned might be your PTU on the way out... I am guessing you still have a S1 ;) I have heard a few cases of this problem going away when swapping to a S2 PTU :)
