    Ok.

So I spent the day taking ALL the trim off.

    What I have found out:
My Z came with the original Bose sound system.
(All the speakers were pulled out bar some generic pioneer's in the front).

    Evidence;
I found a wiring loom under each of the seats with the nissan logo on them.
    Where the bose amps were....

And I found an amp that was missed on the rear left quarter panel.

    End.

    Anyway.
I got 2 12" subs in an enclosure.
    2 500w amps
a pair of 6" pioneers in the front
2 pioneer 6x9s in seperate enclosures.

What would be the best way to set it all up.

you sure the loom you have found underneath the seats isnt just for the electric seats? Was not aware that the Bose system ever had amps located there, especially considering it didnt require amplifiers of that size.
Should be amps within the rear bose enclosures, about the size of a component crossover. Unsure of location of front factory amplifiers, but they're not underneath the seats.

agreed with above.. im fairly sure the amps were built into the bose boxes.. i know they were for the rear 6" speakers anyway.. ive still gone mine in a box in teh garage somewhere..

Correct on amps being in the speakers

Mine are still in there as well.

Out of curiousity - does anyone still have a complete original Bose system in their zed including centre speaker - that can coment on the sound quality (or obvious lack there of)?

Nope, my TT came with the Bose door speakers and boxed amplified rears 10 years ago, and the cones were perished then. Didnt try to integrate the amps into the new system.

There is a member on the US forum who specialises in restoring the OEM components, but think it more Bose speaker replacements and repairs to the old amplifiers. Unfortunately, couldnt shed much light on the feasibility of wiring an OEM stacker and controller into a new Head Unit as a Bluetooth input, simply for a bit of the "factory option" look.

I'd suggest the sound quality of a 20year old Bose system would not be great. If you really wanted to retain the originality of Bose speakers they are fitted to many new cars; owners upgrading to aftermarket systems would offload these relatively cheap. You should, however, use an external amp to power them or they will sound average as they generally have a low s/n ratio. The Bose system in our A3 sounds pretty good, it does have 10 speakers though.

I was more curious than anything. I have Alpine Type R's in the front running off a Alpine T420 and the Rear has Type S off the head unit - I have used this combination for about 5-7 years - still sounds great. Waiting for the latest lpine BT model to come out in single Din before I run the subs.

(blatant plug) - I will be selling my double Din Alpine head unit soon! ;)

how much will you be asking for the head unit i might know someone interested ?
you wouldnt have any type r subs laying around would you ??

I paid $1500 - I was thinking $400 would be fair and reasonable.

Type R subs couldn't handle enough power for me mate. T2 Tarantula's were the order of the day! :D I got 146db in the zooki during my first SPL comp, but it was always set up for SPQ - I only did it for shits and giggles;)

Can't go wrong with Alpine. I have used Alpine systems for 20 years in my cars. The first time I strayed away was when I replaced 2 sets of Alpine splits with Focals; sounded better with the old Alpines.

hey guys i am in the process of instaling an alpine system i have 6 inch type r in the doors as well as tweeters and 6x9 s type in the back .

i am planning to put 2 12 inch type r subs in the back which will be running off their own amp .

in another post someone posted he was suprised i could hear the 6x9, which i can hear them big time ! another guy posted that as long as your not running any subs there is no problem hearing the 6x9 speakers

now my question before i spend $$$ on two subs for the boot area is it going to work and sound good?

i cant see it being any different to say a falcon or holden or any other little p.o.s with subs in the boot

Ideally you want high powered full range speakers in the front to give you a 'sound stage', smaller speakers in the back for 'fill', and a high powered sub in a sealed enclosure for punchy bass. Unless you're chasing big Db then all that goes out the window.

it all depends what you want from the stereo, which type of music you generally listen to, etc

also, type r subs arnt very good for the price, give me an idea of what your after and i can definately give you some advice

    Second that!

I too have Type R's in the front and just Type S in the rear for fill. Its simple and works well - just dont put the tweeters in the bottom of the doors (I used the last owners existing tweeters + location). I have to replace these and put them up on the dash or topside of the door card near the side mirrors because the imageing is all wrong! When you turn you head you can't pin point where the sound is coming from properly.

I listen to everything from full on heavy and hard rock to hip hop and techno. At the time the T2s were good for DB - but I want more punch from them. So I opted for a sealed box - keeps them nice and tight. I was very very happy with it! Just needs about 3000W RMS to drive them!

I havent put these in the zed just yet (still trying to get the bloody thing rego'd) - but I have already wired the sub volume into the ashtray - fits in there perfectly - it is nice and neat and falls to hand while driving (good if you see the cops coming - or the subs are on the verge of clipping).

    Agree

Get a circular drill bit set and put them into the top of the door card with an angled mounting cup, like this.:

I've got the MTX Road Thunder/Thunderaxe series splits, sub and amp - works a treat. :)
