I have removed rear sway bar on my race car. Have 13kg/mm front springs, 10kg/mm rear springs. IMHO has made the car a lot more predicable, now it doesnt just break away, can feel and manage rear end a lot better

I run a solid rear sway. No front sway bar and no brace. Installing brace on back.

2+2, 2+0 or hardtop, TT or Non, etc?

OK, this is very interesting, so all 3 cars mentioned are turbo, but since this is about handling dynamics, the type of shell would be relevant, like 2+2 or 2+0 or Slicktop and if roll cages and other braces are also fitted?

    Mine is 2+2

Zeal Coilovers (Unsure of rates but they are hard but not stupid hard I think 8/6kg or 9/7)

    Stillen sway F + R - Disconnected rear though
1 piece carbing style strut braces F+ R

I am finding the front is skipping a little over the road leading to traction loss on rough surfaces and the feeling is that its the sway bar and 8kg+ springs give or take on the front causing this.

I have heard of well set up cars running no sway and heavy springs. Keen to see though if someone has actually done this and can tell the tale :br:

I have a 2+0 with roll cage fitted, I dont think my springs fitted on Zeal coilovers are "stupid" hard, but obviously its not a road car

If your springs are stiff enough to warrant removing the sway bar then they're probably too stiff for street use.

    Is DieselDave around?

He has quiet good knowledge and technical background to explain what you would need to know or want to know about running with no sway bars. His "built" cars dont run any sway bars and track very very well. And arent stupid stiff either for daily driving.

I only mention him, as he designed his car to not include them. So he would be the guy to ask for the technical info. Not so much the trial and error info.

sole reason for sway bars is so you can use softer springs on road cars. FReal race cars rarly use them. In martins case he is spot on. rear sway bars are usually not used, and fronts are optional. His spring rates are perfect for the track.

The MCA coil overs for my defunct track car where 12kg front and 10 kg rear. I wasn't going to run rear sway bars either.

In many cases true but lets not forget that "Real" racecars often have the suspension geometry with very low (adjustable) roll centers as well that require far less roll control with tougher springs/damper combination.

This is at the expense of any driver comfort at all and soley for the relatively smooth and predictable surfaces of racetracks.

If the road car is "skipping" on the front, most likely your damper rate is way to high, especially on extension allowing the tyre to unload over uneven surfaces.

Spring rate does not contribute as greatly to ride harshness as overdampening on extension.

Well there is only one way to find out.... I am going to pick up a stock front on the week.

First disconnect the Stillen, get a feel for it and then throw on the stock and get a feel for it and report my finding back.

From what you have told us and others have stated, if your car is braced up, it sounds like you could disconnect your stillen front sway bar. Your springs are harder than stock so you could be right. If the car seems to skip around, then it might be too much dampening.

That's what I got from the comments, so I don't know why you want to bother with fitting a stock front sway to test.
