I was wondering what sort of gains can be expected from a N/A. I would like around 200kw. Does anone know what would need to be done and roughly how much it would cost?
    Cheers

200kw at the flywheel,or at the wheels....

it would be very dificult to acheive that figure at the wheels, but at the flywheel its plausable....
either way the mods your looking at
    MUST DO.....
crap loads of maintanance, preventitive and regular to get it running right before mods begin
exhaust including headers, high flow cats and high flow mufflers
kn panel filters or other pod filter
    upgraded clutch
    tuning or aftermarket ecu,then tuning
    SHOULD DO
    improved spark plugs,platinum or iridium
    lightweight flywheel(debatable)
    lightweight underdriven crank pulley(again debatable)
twin turbo fuel pump and injectors or upgraded injectors over stock na if shooting for 200rwkw
upgrade fuel lines to braided,or at least new ones
    lightweight one piece tailshaft
    port and polish heads
    extrude honed plenum
    bigger throttle bodys
    increase displacement(stroker kit$$$$$$$)

hepas more but thats a good start

200rwkw is a high figure for an NA but would be possible if you have the dollars. What would be your budget for this build?
I'll wait for Chrispy to come and explain better but from reading his posts I think Jinxed is on the right track... definately ensure your car is upto scratch before going for it... unlike a turbo the NA mods won't just be bolt on's... alot of high flowing parts like the plenum and heads and losing weight off rotating parts like the flywheel and pulleys too and then strengthening and ensuring your engine will be safe to run a 200rwkw+ tune.
You'd definately need the full exhuast (extractors, frontpipes, highflow cats or no cats if its for the track, and the cat back section). Chrispy's working on a set of Tuned length Extractors... probably better to ask him about them but from what he says the off the shelf items won't cut it if you're shooting for high power figures like that...
Could even do away with the plenum and do ITB's for the coolness factor
Good luck with it all... and be prepared to read many posts that say "if you want 200rwkw buy a TT and mod it" because it is the cheaper option... but if you want a 200rwkw NA, go for it :)

    thanks for the compliments

ive been modifying cars for 10 years ish so i hope i know what im talking about....lol
na power basics = air in, air out, as smoothly and quickly as possible, thats the start point, over symplifying maybe but its true
as a twin turbo owner its easier for me to make the numbers, but i appreciate the effort put into the na zeds they can still be quickish and a lot of fun...

Ohh, I feel all warm and fuzzy :D

To be honest I wouldn't suggest you go down the NA performance route unless you are dedicated or stupid enough to finish it (which one am I:rolleyes:). It costs megabucks. I could have done a TT conversion with GT28's by now with the money I have spent (if you count all the stuff like resprays, wheels, suspension etc.)

    What you need:

Lightweight everything, flywheel, driveshaft, under drive pulley, flick the clutch fan

Very least a head rebuild with higher compression (11:1), biggest cams you can find, oversize valves, stronger springs, adjustable cam gears, decent port job. You can go very crazy with the heads with titanium valves, retainers, double valve springs, custom cams, $5000 on porting etc.

Freshen up the bottom end never hurts, specially when you want to raise the rev limit by up to 1000rpm. New bearing, rings, arp rod, mian and head bolts at the least. If you have the dosh go a set of titanium rods and lightweight pistons. Get it all balanced too.

Make sure your fuel system is up to the demand, you don't want to lean out at 7500rpm. New fuel pump either stock, walbo, bosch, whatever. Also have your injectors cleaned. Might also want to go to TT injectors if you can pick up a set cheap

A good tune, either aftermarket ecu, good piggyback or get the stock ECU redone.

New intake manifold, tuned length with 6 throttles and veloicty stacks.

Good extractors. I have only found one company that makes extractors which I believe are up to the job, but they are US$2000 a set  I'm gonna make my own or get a shop to do it, should come in about half that of the american stuff. After that high flow cats, low restirction mufflers and a set of earplugs :p

With all that you *MAY* reach 200rwkw wtihout going to crazy on the heads. There is always the good old "throttle in a bottle" if all the above sounds too hard, just make sure you do it right and don't get pulled over by the cops

Have a search for NA performance, you should be able to find most of the information that you require, if not PM me.

Yes, but he is in the ACT wher all the good stuff like fireworks, porn and 'other' things are all legal!

On a side note I want one of those really cute little nitrous bottles! That'd look good on my desk at work :p It'd match my bent valve

lol, probably is legal in A.C.T  ,its a shame such a beautiful piece like the chrome bottle has to be hidden away for a street car :( :( :) ;)

is it legal in ACT....man its funny that the laws there are laid back and thats like where all the huge head figures live....

btw what states dont have p plates? is act one of them....and do they have p-plate turbo restriction if they do........just wondering..... ...not that im going to get my licence there just so i can drive a zed and a turbo....mind you i heard the new p-plate laws comming in a month will put them outta cars like the NA supra......god thats harsh..

i'd say jedi's car would have close to about 200 at the flywheel / engine. it's not impossible to make 200 at the wheels but it's going to take lots of dollars as simple bolt ons won't get you there.

    stock kw?

    what does a stock n/a have 168KW?

if jedi is putting down 150-155 at the wheels surely that is 200 or close to it at the motor? without turning this thread into a powertrain pecentage/fixed power loss debate.

Hey chrispy dont you think a n/a could go 200KW on the standard throttle body's and intake manifolds?

    maybe go for torque instead

As I understand it more power will increase your top speed, which in a 300zx is already adequate.
Perhaps go for the mods that add torque, thats what will improve acceleration.
The engine nutters will know what ones they are, I think longer stroke and higher compression?
