    Hi guys,

So this morning I replaced my TPS to fix my high idle, worked perfectly as started it up again to test the results. no problems

Then went about installing a cruise control boss kit, got the thing on alright after a bit of messing around, also used some engine cleaner to clean a few surfaces inside the engine bay.

Went to take it for a drive to test the cruise control but she wont start, doesnt turn over at all and just click click click etc.

No idea what it could be as it was working 1/2hr ago, im guessing its something to do with the cruise control boss kit install as thats all i really did in between, unless the engine cleaner got something else wet.

Battery is fine as i can turn on the radio and headlights etc.

    any ideas?

battery is flat, but not dead, youe still got enough power to run the radio etc, but its below the required amount to crank the car, try push start if manual , and go for a drive, or jump it

    Thanks for reply

Ive had a dead battery in the zed before and if there is enough power to use the radio and headlights then there is enough power to at least turnover the engine, even if it doesnt start. It also would have had to have gone dead in about and hour. I guess its possible but seems unlikely

check nyour battery terminals are secure then, if you are getting a click (I assume from the starter solenoid) then the problem is in the power getting to the starter, once the solenoid clicks ther is a complete circuit for the starter motor and if there is power enough in the battery then the motor should start.

This is of coures assumiong the click is the starter solenoid and not some random relay (fuel system etc) that you can hear.

Everyones saying battery, now thats its mentioned it has taken longer to fire recently, so I guess it could be it. Just previously when ive had a flat batter the car has at least tried to start, can heard it struggling to turnover, but this time its nothing. just get the clicking, clicking is coming from drivers side up near the windscreen... dont know what parts, dont really know my way around the engine that well

Liam, The clicking is the starter soleniod trying to pull in to start the car.

Is either 1 of 2 things. Dead battery or one of the battery terminals is not tight enough.

Did the TPS change sort the idle out? Your old one was pretty dodgy

    Tek,

yeah the new TPS fixed up the idle, was steady at 1k, so will have to adjust from there but at least it was stable.

Thanks for the offer aazn, but i dont need it for work (public transport) so ill just sort a new battery out this week.

will post to confirm if this solves it all (at least if its the battery then the girlfriend will not have a reason to say "see i told you not to mess with it" haha

    for searchers,
replacing battery fixed it up, thanks guys

another thing I found while googling, turn on the interior light, if light dims while trying to start then its the battery (yes, I sitll didn't trust the battery diagnosis)
