24hr bathurst heaps better than V8 supercars V8 supercars have been struggling to keep my interest for years now and ive been watching them as long as i can remember(or at least the orig bathurst)but the multi model car race is heaps more enjoyable and far more interesting....now all they need is a hot Volvo competing and ill be a happy race fan>D<
Hot Volvo.... ... funny thing, the last time I actually worked on a car at Bathurst it was a hot Volvo, the 242T of Robbie Francevic/John Bowe(JB's first Bathurst) in the heady Group A days of 1985. That was the year the TWR XJS Jaguars won. The variety really made the event, I have a photo with 5 different cars in it!.
Hey at least it was a Nissan V6... ... go easy on us older folks. Pity I didn't catch up with you guys, If I wasn't with other folks I would've come over!
Funny - I was there as a flag marshall We were debating putting out a white flag for the Volvo. (Non Competitive car on track)
Don't start me.... Car was owned by a Kiwi that I won't name(check ownership of controversial scratching from this years Melbourne cup!) Car was fast... in top 10 shootout! If the professional(ex F1) mechanics didn't break it so often would have been right up there! Hey I'm no big Volvo fan but it was quick... Management let it down(several times) Damndest thing the bitch of a thing didn't have the courtesy to finish, died on last lap! Micheal how long were you a flaggie.. I started in '72 and flagged at Bathurst, Amaroo, OPIR Sandown & PI until '83
Remember Moffat at Bathurst? I started in 76 and stopped in the late 80s. Yes, the Volvo was surprising. Basically stock, but on slicks.Moffat ran out of fuel half way up the mountain, right beside our post. I wanted to give him a hard time, but he was quite charming. Willo in his Celica? The Dolomite Sprint beating the Monaros? A great way to get very close to the action. M
Yep I rememeber all that... ... you have the Volvos confused, there was a stock 242GT in the early 80's and the one I worked on was a full race GroupA car in 1985(Both Silver) But yes they were good days with variety in the cars.. that's why I liked the 24Hr
