Hi all,I just had my 100K service done last week with everything from Belt to Auto Tensior to Radiator.Every so often, especially when cold, when I start my car, there is a very quick small squeek from the engine bay as it turns over. ANYthing I should look at/get checked out ? If I drive for a little bit, and try and start it again all is fine. And doesn't even do it all the time when cold ( Its not much help).Any ideas appreciated. I thought it might be something not lubricated correctly ?Bruce.
More than likely you have the>> aircon switched on all the time, so when you start the engine the A/C compressor is engaged, placing an additional load on the drive belt. As chewy has suggested, check the tension on the belts. You could also make sure the A/C is turned off before you try starting the car, if the noise ceases, thats your culprit. Cheers Lloyd :-Z
Air Cond is never on.... damn. It only does it once or twice when cold. (ie: if it does it, I can quickly turn car off and it will do it again- but never a third time)....
I'd say its your belts dude..... nothing to stress about. I get some wierd noises from mine sometime. Infact, I have one now. It doesnt screech, but it sounds like one of the pulleys or belts is making more noise than normal. Just take it back to where you got the 100K service done and get them to check the belts.Cheers
My Z developed a squeak shortly after 100K > service, was definitely one of the accessory belts. Re-tightening fixed it - but note that I also had a U/D pulley fitted at the 100K service.
I wouldn't treat it as "red hot" urgent >> but the squeak probably means a belt is slipping, although probably only for that initial start up. The sound aggravating me was my motivation to fix the problem more than anything.
