lol it's not even wet. I live on the top of a hill so no floodwaters anywhere near me ...and besides ever since I've gone back to work we've had nothing but beautiful sunshine
Ok so this is a late post but might be an alternative for those reading this thread at a later date. I was having a think about this and I think if I was to do the job I'd do it this way. First of all you can buy proper fabric dye (not paint) from Spotlight, Lincraft etc that shouldn't have issues with washing out. If you don't have one, get yourself a carpet shampoo machine. I have a Bissell (http://www.bissell.com.au/Products/c/deepcleaner/Category.aspx?MSCSProfile=E643FF728F825C96AE54FD4E74A9047ACAF7FE7CDD014E49306598E51CB2C7906B48FF78AF4D258A01CFF1B258A01ADC056173C14DC2BD0E434D0F64BE29D668914D31DFFAC2B41434C8C5DB2F2446A20721FCE82BC7D56DE010794E9B622D90BB952D278911B7B72F8998D38FE93D33860406BA936BE07FCDD12C2FECB818A849CFBBDC3ACF543C). Now there are two possible ways to apply the dye. Either mix it up in the machine reserver where the hot water normally goes and then "clean/dye" your tweed as if you were doing a normal upholstery clean. Or (probably what I would do), start by cleaning the tweed, then while its still damp use a separate spray bottle to saturate the tweed with the dye mixture. You can use the carpet shampoo machine to suck out the excess as you go. Now this will probably you will probably need to customise your application technique as you go along i.e. There may be a benefit to letting it sit for some time before sucking out, multiple applications might be better than one saturation etc., but I think this would work nicely. Would also be much cheaper than buying a heap of paint tins. I'm about to do my mats and have just bought "iDyePoly Black" by Jacquards which I purchased at Lincraft http://www.jacquardproducts.com/products/dyes/idye/. Cost was about $10.
So if you're not using the VHT stuff, what did you use on the seats? How does the colour/feel/flaking compare to VHT?
Went well. Mats came up nice and black although starting to show signs of fade now where there is heavy foot wear.
Only if you jump it the tub. No seriously I don't know as I did floor mats, but I doubt that this product would come off that way. I think it is wearing off mine because of the foot traffic on it. I imagine that on other less impacted areas it would last a lot longer.
Bookmarking this thread because I love the tweed over leather and I hate the feel of velour (My Prelude has velour and it looks fine but I cant stand the feel of it, ugh). Black tweed looks the shit and seems like a very cheap simple job for the transformation you get.
I did it to my Z recently due to seeing this thread. It is a good improvement over the standard colour, though I went almost overkill with the spray. I think I did between 6-8 coats! In total I used 9 cans of simplyspray.com.au to do my 2 seater interior trim, when 10 cans is supposed to be enough to do trim & seats! Overall it is an easy job, the hardest part is putting the trim back together, which was a real pain in the ass for me as I took my sweet time in doing the spray, I couldn't quite figure out which bolt went were when putting the trim back in. Take photos or mark your bolts & you will make life much easier for yourself. I will try & put pics up in a couple of days
Anti I may just have come check it out when time permits. mtentori did you find that there was a point where extra coats made no extra difference? CARZ this is a great pictorial.
