alternator

  1. I have to get a new alternator for my non turbo, does anyone know what info ill need to know when ordering a new one? are the alternators the same for any other vehicle?

    If you go to a dealer, all you should need is the VIN. (friggin expensive though)

    If going elsewhere, (IE an auto store or a sparky), jot down the model, engine code, build date, alternator brand, and any numbers off the side of the alternator. (on the small plate riveted to the housing).
    Some places might not need the specifics of the alternator, but grab them just in case :)

    But as BigCole suggested - consider a recon. Its usually about half the price of a new unit. Maybe even less, if all it is, is a voltage reg. Your local sparky should have the means to do this for you.
