    Hey all,

Just a question for the smarties...

What is the actual differnce between a pre 1993 and post 1993 alternator???

For example, if I looked at an 1990 300ZX alternator and an 1995 alternator, what will the differnces whether physical (numbers, markings etc.) be???

    Thank you,
    Adam

    I'm running a 90 model alternator on my 95 engine ..

the pulleys aren't interchangable ..when ordering an alloy pulley set you have to specify what year ...90-93 or 94-96 because of alternator .

thats all I know for now

So its the pulleys that are the restriction...

Is it a diameter difference or number of ribs or offset?

Cant be too different. The belts are the same length whether its 90 or 95.

    It's the number of ribs.
Actually a Non Turbo alternator pulley could be the same, I think the harmonic balancer is.
    Nissan FAST will identify them.

what are 'rims' on an alternator?

do they affect the fitment and operation?

TT and NA alternator belts are both 4 rib. It's the power steering that is different. 3 rib on NA and 4 rib on TT.

Balancers are all the same AFAIK.
