There are some experts on here regarding stereo installs, this is for them I just bought a new kickarse Alpine type " r " setup for the t/t Im installing the splits The tweeters come prewired with thin gauge cable The woofers dont come with wire My question is Is it ok to use the larger gauge wire (same wire im using to go from the amps to the tweeter box)to go from the woofers to the tweeter box The tweeters are hard wired,so i cant change to the same gauge as im using for the woofer I was wondering if the tweeters being a smaller gauge wire and the woofer being a larger gauge wire will affect sound quality, both wires go directly to the tweeter box Im presuming it makes no diference
The gauge of the wire makes no difference to the sound quality. Basically if it is rated at the right ohms then everything is all good. Traditionally a heavier gauge wire is used on higher powered systems but the ohm rating will still be rated at the same for that system. The sub quite often has to deal with a different power rating and often has a higher gauge wire to deal with it. That is basically what I have been told and how ive always done it. The best bet would probably be to talk to the guys at the car stereo installation place and confirm or shoot down any info ive presented. Peace
alpine t-r pff, kappa infinity 6.5 is the way to go check out these guys, they have all the answers. http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&ved=0CA0QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.the12volt.com%2F&rct=j&q=12v.com&ei=g2LVSrvvJ4fe6AOzo72wAg&usg=AFQjCNFwTDHICASySnKMvKFoVK51PzC3pQ
just changed my rear speakers from infinity 6.5 to the Jaycar brand "Vifa" 6.5" 2-ways. (1 of the Infinity's blew). Sound quality was the same through the volume range and at less than half what I paid for the Infinity's
So your saying the $750 kappas are no better than $120-130 jcar's, Have your hearing checked, or get an installer next time.
lol,my amps would blow up your jcar specials beav (kappa infinity 6.5 are now around $400 ) nice link PDX-1.1000 MONO BLOCK PDX-4.150 4 CHANNEL
good gear, quick question, you splashed out on the pdx amps why didnt you spend a bit extra an get type x speakers instead of type r??
type r are are plenty good.. if you want to go better i wound not stick with alpine.. i would be moving up the ladder. nice stuff simon. the thinner the wires the more heat it produces, any wire will do, it all depends on how far you are running them, from the amp to speakers then you need a bigger set of wires (14ga?) and if its from crossover to woofer anything will do since its under 1m in length.
yeh and the more the wire heats up the more resistance it gets which means less power to your speaker... dont use too thin wires! specially not at 150wRMS
cheers guys Ive just done the fronts,as the interior is now retrimmed it was time to do the stereo setup I ended up using the thicker wire that im running from the amps to the splitters for the woofers to tweeter box,all went down well We did Pioneer for Kathys zed (ZXTCY),Kenwood is in mine (LOWZX),so thought it was time for something like this in the t/t For anyone interested (i know billy loves stereo installs ),this is whats going in the t/t :zlove: The setup being installed is ............. iDA-X305 PDX-1.1000 MONO BLOCK PDX-4.150 4 CHANNEL 2 OF THESE BABIES SWX-1043D FOR THE BACK SPR-17S FOR THE FRONT SPR-13S ] SCX-2 2.0 Farad Cap which all hooks in nicely with the ipod touch
great setup, one question thought can you show me how you plan to mont the rears with teh tweeters and where the speakers are going
The woofers take more current to drive the coil than the tweeters which is why the wire would be a higher guage. Tweeters in comparison take hardly any current which is why a small guage wire is fine. Having different guages for each speaker has no effect on the sound quality as long as the wire is rated to handle the current load. The only time a wire would heat up is if its not able to handle the curent load.
I have my 6.5" splits in the rear mounted into the factory bose vented boxes. I think that is the most perfect fit for a set of rear splits.
two seater or 2+2, cause there is no way in hell you could fit 6 an a halfs in the back of my car with out hacking those pillers to pieces
