Hi, my zed has suddenly started to cut out when im idling at the traffic lights unless I can hold down the gas a little. This use to only happen on a cold start and then wouldnt happen any more whilst driving anywhere. But now it happens every time I am idling, and today it happend even when I was at very low speeds. Does any1 know the possible things I might need 2 look at? thanks.
i had that same problem when i replaced my pod filter with a stock airbox (the filters in the airbox were filthy) put the pod back on and ran fine again. but im guessing u have already checked ur air filter/afm and connectors?
havent checked it yet, but I just got my brother to step on the gas whilst i checked under the hood, and there was a rattling sound coming from near the top of the engine. Also, when the car starts and the accelerator is pressed, there is a quick but loud distinct squealing noise.
Hmm couldn't tell ya if those noises are related to ur idling problem. I'm not exactly an expert =P but I would suggest cleaning ur afm, afm connector, throttle bodies, and ur air filter/ buy a new one. All easy and cheap to do. See if it helps. If not hopefully someone on the forum who is an expert can help diagnose ur problem. Best of luck mate
also check all vacuum lines, especially if original. look around the back near the fire wall for the ones that run acroos the back of the passenger side head, these are for the iacv etc they start up near the throttle boddy of the same side. if you find these are damaged/cracked I would suggest replacing, then confirm there are no other vacuum leaks , then checking your TPS and finish with checking base idle, in that order.
You're having on and off luck with this Zed aint you. I'd be interested in hearing what the squeak or rattle is. Hopefully its not a Timing belt tensioner or idler bearing. Check your coolant temp sensor too. If thats dicky it will make the idle fluctuate a little. Also with the weather we're having the AFM connectors. Injectors connectors, coil packs. etc.
There is a metal retaining clip that sits around the plug, dig it out with a screwdriver and dont loose it!
well a few days ago, my friend adjusted a screw or something on the throttle cable, and now my car doesnt cut out any more on idle. It idles a bit higher, sitting at about 1k RPM, unless its in driver or reverse where it goes to 700 RPM, but it seems to have taken my cutting out problem away.
wouldnt adjusting the throttle stop mean the TPS is being forced to give an incorrect reading, after all the shaft is not returning to its correct position, it also means your throttlebodies will not be completely closed, at idle and partially bypassing all the idle control gear, if the throttle stop has been adjusted then I would recommend lewtting the mechanic who you take it to know so they can correct it.
I think he means the guy adjusted the throttle cable nuts so the cable is tighter causing the TBs to open slightly. Chrispy is right, this is a band-aid. loosen the throttle cable so the TBs are closed properly, then adjust the TPS, then the AAC base idle screw at the rear passenger side of plenum.
