No, it wouldn't. The bag has holes in it for the air to escape through afterwards. This is a standard thing with airbags pretty sure they all do it.
I think I would much rather cop a small cloud of smoke, than get propelled through the windscreen(or cop a steering column into my chest cavity). All this is relative to the alternative outcome, IMHO. Three Cheers for Airbags!!!:br:
Was listen to talk back radio once and they had a car expert on. The amount of people that rang in saying their air bags did not work in a crash was amazing. He put it pretty good when he said. If it didn't go off and you are still here to complain it did not need to go off so it worked as it should . If it went off and you are still here to complain it worked as it should also . Bottom line is hitting a bag with a loud smoky bang is better than hitting the windscreen.
