Is the bearing in this replaceable? It's making a loud squealing noise on startup, it goes away in a few seconds.
Cool, I'll pull it off and see how I go. Another side question, it's normal for the water pumps to have that hole in the top? Is it meant for grease or oil or something?
Check your belt tension..... The symptom you describe sounds like a slipping belt to me. (squeals under load and disappears as it comes up to speed) You'd be surprised what an extra 'poofteenth' of tension will do to rectify the situation........ and it's a lot easier (and cheaper) than replacing a bearing
Yep... The air con bearings normally make a noise all the time if they are stuffed. And are you sure it's the aircon belt? Normally the alternator belt that squeals at startup. The hole in the pump is a tell tale, if the seal is leaking you will see coolant leak out. Not for oil or grease.
No worries man you're more than welcome to borrow one for diagnosing if you need it. Regarding the pump what hole do you need? I'm looking at a new one at the moment and it has an m6 threaded hole is that the one you mean?
The bearing has heaps of play in it, so even if it's not making the noise, it's worth changing I think. The hole in the top isn't threaded, i thought maybe the bearing in it was greasable or something.
