Just when I think Ive got a nice reliable car and could relax into that false sense of security of being a new car owner, trouble strikes...Well, it wasn't the reliability of the car that was the problem, just the reliability of drivers around me (and my own reactions). I suddenly became involved in a mazda sandwich when I ended up in the middle of a 5 car pile up on the way to work. Before I knew it the three cars infront of me were sideways and crushed into each other, and I decided to join the party. :N( ...and so did the guy behind me. No one's sure why the heck the first guy broke suddenly. He wouldn't say a thing to the police on the scene (niiice looking copper... :YD). Id say he was protecting his insurance by embracing his 'right to remain silent'. :xNow Im without a car for two weeks while it's repaired. ...and I was enjoying having to not rely on public transport. At this rate, Im gunna get a job within walking distance of home and throw the keys to my car in the draw. I know Im an enviro scientist and all, but sheesh I hate public transport. At least I get to meet all the weirdos on the trains & busses again. :YD Lou (Zedless and Mazdaless....)
Well, there is a white 99 zed in Japan... ..sitting in an auction house. That zed got some serious consideration as I watched my car getting towed away.
You know Lou Each of these would be a little over $30k landed.... I mention it for no particular reason.... I can SO see you in this track weapon [image]http://img113.ac.yahoo.co.jp/users/6/6/6/2/z32z2002-img600x450-10665507030001.jpg[/image]Ben

Ben, whats the go? I'm assuming these cars are on a lot in Japan somewhere. With the figure you mentioned you would have to then add compliance + on road costs here? I thought most of the cars imported to Aus, are bought from auctions? How would you go about getting one from a car yard or privatly in Japan. Obviously you would have to find someone over there, who can speak both languages, who could find a decent late model z. How would you go about this. This is just a "what if" at this point, but my significant other has been saying shes feeling really lucky lately and assures me shes is going to win the lottery soon. ( mind you, shes been saying that for years) bollie7
Cars in Japan the pics I posted were from car lots, but were advertised on Yahoo Auctions Japan. J-Spec Imports often buys cars off Yahoo, sometimes sight unseen, but usually they have a mechanic go and look at the car, which can cost anywhere between $200 - $1000 if the car is in a remote location, so it's as good as buying from an auction house, maybe even better as a mechanic gives it a more thorough look over. Those cars were around $25k in Japan, for stock, (early, like 98 or so) series 4 autos. So, landed and complied would be low to mid 30's I would guess. I'm not sure if anyone has compliance approval for late model Z's but it shouldn't take too long and if you were keen your car could be the test vehicle for it.Ben
