So im back on the Z scene after a 5 year break, car has been sitting around being driven every now and then. Looking at it the other day i decided it was time to do something with it, so its doing Superlap this year. The car currently has Tein Flex coilovers (at the time i was only interested in power) and im looking to install adjustable arms etc. What brands are you guys using and are they living up to the punishment? Dave
Will throw in Nagissa as well. Those Nagissa front arms are the best I've seen bar none. Expect to pay top $$ though especially for the Japanese stuff...
Cheers Rob, I'd rather pay the money for quality than not have confidence in the car/ have some cheap crap fail at 200kph and put me into a wall Dave
If its superlap your doing you need the coilovers off my race car project that was cancelled. These are 5K+ coilovers brand new... Lots of other stuff in this thread that should interest you.. MCA Proflex competition coil overs for track car 10KG front spring rate and 8 KG rear, These where custom made by Murray Coote in QLD and cost $5K Probably the best suspension you could put on a zed for track work. These are brand new, been bolted on but not driven. Have adjustable rebound and compression and as you can see have external resevoirs. $2950 check out the for sale thread, lots of other relevant stuff in there http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=327812&highlight=coil
Have a look at gktech suspension arms...im still undecided on whether or not i should get ikeya formula or spl suspension, or should i go with gktech who claims to be better than the big brand suspension makers like ikeya formula...the part that makes me consider them is that their v3 suspension arms are all chrome molly & there manufacturing process is not like the others...which is according to them aswell. Ive read a lot of positive reviews from the skyline & silvia owners on the net & I'm yet to come across any negative feedback but I'm sure it exists. Im no suspension guru, nor will i be stupid enough to call myself a guru about anything...im currently looking at my suspension options aswell, so its just another option for you to consider Ive seen Graham (Tektrader)'s coilovers & they look great...its a good option if you want some good custom made track coilovers Hope that helps Abraham
I doubt they can build anything better than Ikeya or Nagissa. These Japanese tuners have been at it for 25 years now, there's nothing new....
Rob i understand what you are saying...but didnt they used to be a new brand at some stage? Who says that gktech cant be a big name brand down the track? Of course, Ikeya Formula & Nagisa Auto are world famous & known for their quality...but I'm not gonna knock a product or brand unless ive personally owned & used it or unless there is multiple items with multiple issues like AMS, hence why i stay far away from their products As mentioned, I have no knowledge compared to yourself or Black Beast or may others when it comes to suspension, but i just thought i would give the OP another option that is available locally & has some good reviews Abraham
Cheers for the replies guys. Sorry Tekky, already have the Tein Flex's. Has anyone used AMS suspension components? I am reading some very mixed reviews. Dave
Read some of the follow up reviews on the us forums, 300zxclub.com has a decent review section, on ams suspension arms. Then keep looking. Personally I've got spl gear & really rate it. Powertrix is meant to be pretty good & a bit cheaper too. Both available via manufacturer & coz / z1
Hi Dave, I have some Powertrix suspension arms on my Z & the build quality is great for the price. I specially like how the rose joints have rubber boots to keep them protected. I can't comment on longevity as I only installed them a few months ago. -Jono
Ha and I thought he said he was doing superlap -going to need to something a little better than Tien Flex if you want to be competitive with the big boys...
hehe, there's still a few in that class spending silly money. Regardless I say go for it, would be a good event to do, only downside is you don't get much track time for the money you spend on entry. Also check into the tyre requirements. From memory you have to run the sponsors tyres, which can add a couple of thousand dollars to your weekend.
Yeah I know it's not cheap already in a few thousand and plent more to go. Have to run Advan semi slicks (control tyre), hopefully it will be competitive. I have worked on/ know a few of the guys currently running in it so it will be interesting
