I would like to know the pros and cons of aftermaket ecu's, my 300 TT has a chipped oem ecu and I am adding a few extra upgrades and wondering about fitting an aftermarket ecu. There are about 4 locally made ecu's available here in South Africa which do very well on the local race scene. I have fitted a few to turbo and non turbo 4 cylinder cars with no probs. Just worried as I have read a post somewhere that the 300zx TT is not a good candidate for non oem ecu's. There are many suppliers here of aftermarket ecus that tune them but not sure of anyone that can do the oem ecu's.
    Comment will be appreciated.

First choose your tuner and then ECU. There are lots of after market ECU available but if your tuner isn't experienced with the ECU and Z32 then you car may run crap than ever before. Consulted with different tuner and everyone spoke highly about the ECU that they have worked on or specilaized with a particular brand and all other brand is crap. So it is very difficult for us who have no knowledge about how to tune our car.

Biggest cons from A/M ECU's is they can be at times plagued with issues around factory functionality like cold starting for example. The other big con of them is the price. It all depends on how much power you want to make. If it's 600+ then you would best be looking at aftermarket, purely from the fact of higher tuning resolution maps than stock computer. Other pros is cool stuff like correction factors with water and air temperatures and the ability to run from a wideband and just dial in the AFR you want to target.

Good examples of A/M ECU for our cars include Microtech LTX 12 and Haltech E11 V2.

If you are going to consider staying with stock then you can't go past Nistune. I've made a decent number with Nistune and for $400, you can't beat it for value :)

Thanks guys, 90TTZ would the nistune $400 price you quote be AUS$ or US$? I will certainly look into the nistune and see if we have any tuners specialising in it here.
