Hey guys, I recently went to look at a TT and I just need some advice before purchasing anything or making any final decisions, before I go on the car has 217,000km for a 94 model. When the car was idling there was smoke coming out from the exhaust and I think it might be the turbo seals. Since the turbos have not been touched and are still stock, so I'm wondering could it be the seals or could it be something else? if it's the seal, how much work is involved in replacing them to new ones? When he took it for a test drive, first gear made a little grindy sound.. could be heard from outside when he took off, but every other gear was fine. He said he had the tail shaft replaced, but is unsure if that's the problem or not. (I am not a mechanic or anything but I can tell the car has been well taken care of, since he used to be a member in this forum). Any advice you guys could share with me would be great as i would greatly appreciate it.
What color is the smoke? white only while idling from memory it turbo seals. Is there smoke when it revs? Is the crunch when he changes into first or when he releases the clutch to drive off?
The Smoke was white, and there was smoke when he reved it but then it went away Also when he took off but then the smoke disappeared The crunching sound was when he took off in 1st but then didn't hear it again
