    Hi guys,

Installing a stereo, whoever installed the last one in the car cut the factory harness off so I need some help.

I know the yellow is the constant 12v wire and have my ground and amp turn on wires hooked up, but I need help identifying the switched 12v acc wire and the illumination wire.

I tried connecting the orange and brown wires as these were what they were on my last car, but it does not seem to be the case on the 300zx and I seem to have blown a fuse (which I also need help finding, i assume it is in the drivers kick panel, but does anyone know exactly which one would have blown as the interior lights won't turn on, nor the stereo even if i got it right.)

I found a 90 - 94 wiring diagram, but it lists completely different colours to what I have.

Here is a picture of my wires

    Please help asap

    Thanks Rob,

Only problem is, I don't seem to have a red with blue stripe and I have 2 blues and a brown plus a lot of the other wires listed are different to what I have.

Get a test light -you'll soon find your different power wires.

Yeah I am going to go to bunnings now and buy a multimeter, switched 12v is easy as it will show +12v when ignition is switched to on.

I am guessing the illumination will only show +12v when I switch my lights completely on? I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to auto electrics, but that seems logical. I am guessing just hooking the illumination wires to the switched 12v will also be ok I guess my stereo would just always be lit up when the car is on not just my lights?

btw did you get that $23 for the red leds ok?

Yep all received on the LED front.

Correct illumination will only show 12v with lights on, better to wire it up properly once so you don't have to go through this again....

I agree with you there, whoever installed the last stereo was an idiot.

Doing it all right this time, all my wires are soldered, insulated and zip tied so I would rather find the right illumination wire.

You should have seen it before i started, there was a good 3ft of about 20 different wires just twisted, wrapped and duct taped and shoved in, a complete cluster****.

Unfortunately I didnt think to label the wires before I cut them off (half were untwisted and just sitting there anyway, only 1 speaker worked).

Pretty sure the illumination wire colour is Green with a Red tracer.

Yep, for anyone interested illumination wire is green with red stripe, +12v switched is one of the blues. The interior lighting / stereo fuse is the 10amp at the bottom and closest to the firewall of the car.

Another update for anyone interested -I recently checked this on my 1991 build and found that while the pins in the diagram above were correct, the colours were not. Others I have done botht he pins and colours were correct.

I don't know where the variation comes from, but it seems a good test light is your best asset.
