belt? I did a search on the subject but couldn't find anything. The reason i ask is that i have a Dayco timing belt. This is what it says on the cover (94702 228SHP +320H Replaces T251) i wanted to know whether this is stronger than the orignal Nissan one or not, otherwise i am looking at getting the Greddy one from Coz.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Cheers Joe.

It would be nice if AMEC got back to the forum about the problems they had

with the Dayco belt. Seems they have gone quiet after I proved that they and the Dayco rep had no fucking idea about timing belts and how many turns it would take to realign everything. Gutless wonders.

not sure about the t251. did a quick search and

found it listed for a maxima at some website.

the gates t180r is the high performance equivalent of the t180, which is the oem replacement. think the 180r is blue, and probably the exact same kevlar item as sold under different names.

contacted repco a few months ago about these, and they can supply them for around $180.

I rang AMEC on an unrelated matter on Tues morning...

They are very busy ATM I was told but the fone was answered - why not give em a call?

What is this timing belt issue about?

AMEC posted here scaremongering about the Dayco belt being incorrect

and then never posted back what the Dayco Rep's conclusion was. I want AMEC to post back here cause I don't want to be the relay between them and the forum plus I want them to explain it in their own words. I'm RedZedMikey would be very please to find out what the Reps findings were as he has a Dayco belt and is wondering if he should replace it or not based on AMECs findings.

Here's the original post about Dayco belts.

Here's when the rep turned up

    Here's my explanation

After speaking to Emmanuel tonight the rep simply

has never got back to him. Which tends to suggest to me that Dayco were guilty of creating a bad batch of belts but have not had the balls to admit it.

fleet ..thanks for that info .. but is not the real issue on this

topic, that many went through significant heartburn, including much examination at the AMEC tech day, in which EMMANUEL played a leading part and diagnosis .. and an outcome of which was that EMMANUEL undertook to report back to the forum on the outcome of the DAYCO findings ...

i, for one, posted a belated follow up query, of AMEC, never responded to ... why is only now, via a different and subsequent thread that we learn of a DAYCO "non response" ..????

given that AMEC represent themselves as a ZED workshop to the point of holding a forum tech day and that EMMANUEL is a member of this forum, i find it unusual that EMMANUEL has not bothered to honour his undertaking to report back. but, to me, more significant, is the fact that he has not used a representative position to push DAYCO for a response .. to simply say, via a third party, that DAYCO have not responded is simply unconvincing and unsatisfactory, methinks .....:(:(:(:(:unsure:

it tends to suggest to me that AMEC are guilty telling us that the Dayco

belt was wrong when in fact it was AMEC who didn't realise who many times the crank has to be turned to line everything back up again.

RE: Lack of info from AMEC.

I suggest that the abusive insults that he has been subjected to, would be more than enough justification to tell his detractors to "go and get stuffed". Perhaps keeping quiet was considered a better alternative.:unsure:
One only has to read through the posts on this matter from the beginning, to see the obvious direction that it was taking. "Kill the Messenger".:eek:

    T180 vs T251

I've had a look over the gates web site and can't find the composition specs on each belt but what I did find, the T251 is the OEM replacement for the series 2 300zx '94-'96. I installed a T251 in mine on advice it is a hardier item and since it was installed in the series 2 zed, makes sense this item would be better than the T180.

The T180R is the gates Kevlar corded item.

i am using the T180 belt

I had a timing belt etc changed last year when i got my new radiator.. My car had the dayco belt on it and my mechanic said that it was out by a tooth he also said that the Auto Tensioner was not even done correct either.. there is sopose to be a 4mm gap or something he showed me there was no gap what so ever...

The T180 belt only cost me something like $57 bucks being trade price so i am happy with that...

ha ha you hit the nail on the head Lloyd!!!

Emmanuel went out of his way to try and help people with this issue, holding a tech day etc. what does he get in return? Criticism and "oh that timing belt problem is bullshit!" And it's not even his problem! It's Dayco's problem!

So me and Emmanuel can say certain members of this forum can go stuff themselves for being ungrateful so and so's.

And what will vindicate us will be in the form of a certain silver 300ZX that will be disappearing into the distance leaving everyone else staring into the barrels of it's twin 3 inch exhaust system.

ooooooopppssss ..and excuse me ...... a check of past threads will

clearly demonstrate that I/I/I have retained an interest in this issue RIGHT FROM THE START .... that i discussed it with emmanuel at considerable length at the tech day ..WHICH YOU DID NOT/NOT, PETE ... .. that i was an integral part of the belt examination ... that emmanuel gave ME/ME/ME a personal undertaking that he would get back to me on the DAYCO inspection AND that he would also post the results on the forum ....

and i gave emmanuel a personal "big thank you" for providing his facilities and assistance on the tech day ....!!!!!

despite the claimed criticism of emmanuel, there has been NO/NO/NO response ... and the only time the issue has since arisen, has been in requests for information on the DAYCO results ...FORUM MEMBERS were affected by the "offending" and possibly other dayco belts .. so ..to seek a response was both reasonable and NECESSARY ..!!!

and pete, any reference to your zed and what it may or may not do is simply a red herring ...

and to finish ..TO ASSUME THAT I AM ANYONE'S MESSENGER WOULD BE A MAJOR MISJUDGEMENT ...!!!:(:(:(
