alright lads i know all of you will say they wont fit and just buy some boxes for the rear, but i know some of you have done it. ive already got the explode 6x9 so i got no choice but to fit them, i dont want a sub and need the boot space for the roof so any ideas how to fit them??? Cheers Pete
Same here Mr phatdiablo I have had the same problem - is yours a 2 seater? If so, the original factory speakers are 3x4s. If you have the 2+2 the factory ones are 6" so there is still a chance for you. I too bought Sony Xplode 6x9s and there isn't a chance in hell of fitting them. Unless someone comes up with an idea for making them fit, I'm going to buy a set of JBL 3x4s ($118) and sell the Sony ones.
There are 2 plastic panels about 30cm x 20cm that sit on ..... either side of the black-felt parcel self, and underneath the rear qtr windows. If you remove those you can construct an elevated frame (as there is equipment immediately below the plastic covers you'll remove), cover the frame/housing with black stuff, and house your 6x9s. Previous owner did that to my car and it looks OK. CheerZ Vincent
I fitted 6x9's in my 2 seater. Pretty much had to make my own brackets etc. Bit of stuffing around and very tight fit, but can be done. All the plastic panels clip back into place without a problem. Worth the effort, they sound good. Good luck with it.
Maybe the J-spec 2+2s have 6" all round Or maybe it depends on the year of manufacture. I have seen photos in past discussions where the rear plate was a round 6".
How did you get it to fit? I made a brace to hold them so they sit below the opening (instead of being right up at the opening like the original 3x4s). zedsled - how did you seal the gap? I didn't even know it was necessary and so the sound quality is shocking. I can't be bothered stuffing around with it - I'm just gonna rip em out and put 4x6s that fit nice and snug.
Ive checked Yeah i got the 90 aussie and im sure ive seen the factory clarion 3x4's... but there seems to be room under there... i have to pull all the plastic off to make sure... funny the aussie specs come with jap clarion stuff but i found theres a pioneer australia converter box
They were a tight fit mate, there was no gap when I had finished. I used the original mounting brackets, but cut away the old ring. I made a new metal ring and welded it to the original brackets. Bolted straight up. I should have taken photo's but I didn't have camera on me at the time.
I have pics of the little brackets if someone can host them. This worked for me and sounded good. If you really want you could fit them like this and then fiberglass around them to enclose them.
If you have the aus spec 2+2 you will only be able to squeeze 1 6x9 in the right hand side. The left side you will not fit as it is too shallow so what i did was made some brackets and mounted it in the side of the car behind the plastic panel. There is a hole in the metal there where you can fit it (on the left side same as where the aerial motor is on the right side). Those brackets method is talking about wont fit the 2+2 I know as he sent them to me when i bought the 6x9s off him so im assuming the boots are different in a 2 seater.
Re: If you have the aus spec 2+2 you will only be able to squeeze 1 6x9 in the do the jap 2+2 have 6x9?
