65L tank?

    Hi all,

I've just ran out of petrol in the Z today on the motorway, trying to prove the mileage and petrol tank size. So after I ran out and put in 4L of fuel and drove 8km to the Mobil with 98 petrol and can only put in 62L. Assuming I used 1L to get there, that means I can only put in 65L in the tank when I run out.

Does this mean that I have 65L tank or my fuel system can't deliver the other 7L ?

On another note, 96 octane only gives me 365km for 65L. 98 Octane will give me around 520km. But 96 doesn't ping, as checked on the dyno before. Timing is set at 17 degrees now, but even at 25 degrees before, 96 doesn't cause pinging.

Everything Ive read on the Z says it has.....>>

A 72 liter tank, and with IB being able to fit 70 (from memory) and my effort of fitting 68 liters I would believe that to be true. Perhaps your fuel pump couldn't get all the fuel out, or maybe your tank is dented? Have you checked?

Could be. Other possibility is water in the tank causing the short fill.

With other cars I have owned, I used to add a cup of metho to a tank of fuel about once every three months. This would mix with any water in the tank and allow it to go thru the system. Not sure if this will work with the Zed as I haven't tried it as yet.

520km!!!! I only use 98 octane and the best i've gotten out of her is

about 250km, and that was me trying to use the accelerator as little as possible. wtf is wrong with my car?

Your Z is TT auto for a start.

That combination uses up the most fuel I believe. They always tell you to check O2 and AFM for start and replace fuel filter, run injector cleaner.

I used to have TT auto that gives similar fuel economy as yours, it may also be running rich with the black smokes coming out the exhaust at times.

I thought the z had a 75 litre tank but the most I have put in it is around

65 litres. I still have not had the fuel light on so hope she works. As the needle wont go lower than Empty !! :p I have been watching mileage. Easy driving on optimax was like 425 or similar, then my next tank i only got like 365 and im like wtf. Did some minor maintenance on the car and so far on this tank (after filing up on Tuesday when petrol was el cheapo) I am up to 465 and assuming i have another 15 litres left. This was on 98 unleaded also my car is a NA manual. Can anyone clarify tank sizes.

the second part is i have had my car for 8 tanks of fuel now and i average. wait for it........ 9.5L/100k yes that rights 600km+ on 56L of fuel. i swear my car is blessed :p and thats driving to uni and back every day on peak hour traffic. ahh the fuel saving joys of an NA :p all i gotta say is 250km OUCH!!

250km is too low. I get ~ 550km mixed city & freeway and its a TT AUTO!!!

Usually I will be lucky to get 350km out of 60L with mostly suburban driving.

But 600km! thats crazy - good for you though

.. well who said a zed isn't economical!

    you gotta be kidding me

I can't believe it! you're almost doubling my economy! lately i'm only getting 350km outta a tank, and thats without driving it in peak hour, mostly at suburban speeds and a bit of highway on the way to work, and never any hooning around.

    HATE YOU, POZZI!

why can't my NA manual be like your NA manual....

You'll hate me even more, then

Last Easter, came back to Melbourne from Goulburn (674km) on 56.52L, 8.4L/100km (auto NA), works out to about 890km per tank.

I'm going to solve this mystery on the weekend. My fuel tank is still

on the floor so I'll fill it up with water till it's full and work out how much water it took. Then I'll have to clean it out with metho so it doesn't rust.

    TT Auto 2+2 Targa Top : Fuel 55L / 400 km : 7.3L/km

This is stock, remember that chipped ones get better economy. no boost jets, no blow off valves, nothing other than the exhaust.

Also, mine is 2+2 plus Targa top, this is the heaviest.

    Umm, ... 7.3km per litre I think, or 13.75L per 100km.

    Re: Umm, ... 7.3km per litre I think, or 13.75L per 100km.

Last weekend I drive to Gympie from the Brisbane Southside, and back with a little driving around up there. 500KM in total, and had 1/4 tank on the gauge left when I got home, so that should give me 666 km drivable and have the gauge down to the "E" line. I believe there would still be a few litres to spare, as I can only fit 65 litres in the tank when it is that empty. So I get about 10L / per 100km or slightly better. TT Auto too :)

Can't complain at that, well, at least I can't :):thumbsup::zlove:

Anything less than 600KM per tank and you have a problem

I have three mates, all with Targa Tops, two with manuals one auto and they have all disconnected their O2 sensors and they get around the 600Km per tank highway driving, oh and these cars are totally stock standard apart from a bigger exhaust.
