324mm Rotors, Stock Callipers, Worthwhile Upgrade?

I'm looking for feedback from people who have installed r33 gtr rotors whilst retaining the stock caliper and using an adapter such as This kit, was the improvement really noticeable?

The reason why i ask is the previous owner threw in this kit with my new z but it isnt installed, so i'm contemplating whether its worth it.

To me it seems as though it would disrupt the braking balance and as such probably do more harm than good in terms of stoppinjg distances, but then again would give you more specific heat capacity in the rotor so less fade...

I've got the GTR Brembo's and haven't had any hassles at all with brake bias or ABS.

I've driven a few zeds with the bigger rotors but stock calipers and they all seem to work fine. If you have got it for free, then chuck them on :D If you don't like it, sell them.

I've been running the DBA 324mm "Kangaroo Paw" front discs(with stock calipers)for several years and have never experienced any problems with braking.

i dont think you will have any problems martin but i dont think there will be much of an upgrade. pad contact area is the same size, just the larger disk gives better cooling

they are more for looks i think , but then as they wear they look stupid since the pad only hits two thirds of the disk and a smart cop would peg them as a defect item especially behind open face wheels

Of course they are a worthwhile upgrade...

The increased leverage of having the stock caliper clamping a larger disc at a higher radius is always going to make a difference.

If increasing brake pad area was the best way to improve braking, Brembo would have used the Gtr calipers on a 280mm rotor :bash:

Contact area is only part of the equation. Swept area is good for cooling but the most important aspect of the upgrade is the distance from the center of hub. The further away, the force is required to do the same work. It's the same as a longer stroke on a crank will produce more torque, and why longer arms on a pushbikes crank make it easier to pedal.

Makes a significant difference, especially with a MC brace.

lol... and there is poor "Skippy" hopping around looking for his paws ...... !!!!! .. they have now been located on the Chili "hoppo-mobile" ... just when we thought the "hop" was caused by some bad gear changes ... lol....

    Just for you "Laughing Boy"!

"Kangaroo Paw" is the DBA description of the internal air vane pattern used to cool the discs(their description, not mine).

Sorry to see that there isn't much to laugh at in QLD today(incidentally, the "hopping" you thought you saw in my gear-changing, was actually you hiccuping and dislodging your glasses).

No, don't thank me, I'm only too glad to be of assistance.:p:p:p:zlove::zlove::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Don't know what upgrade kit you have been looking at, but my front pads are completely on the disc surface(no 33.3% overhang on my brake pads dude).:zlove::zlove:
