Installation of the resistor and calibration are not a big deal. The look of the 300km fascia really complements the instrument cluster. Love the "Z" symbol and the graduations all the way to 300km/h.

What I found to be the most challenging are:
    1. Removal of needle (what a PITA) ended up pulling out the whole shaft even though I was very gentle and taking it easy.

    2. After driving the car, I noticed the slow response of the speedo. (This I don't like one little bit). The needle constantly tries to catch-up, even when you slow down. It's on a time warp!

    3. Needle would not go past 120km but I checked for smooth travel prior to full installation and did not catch anywhere on the fascia.

Honestly, If there's nothing I can dot to fix items 2 & 3 in the near future. I will revert back to original 180Km.

Is this normal? has anyone else had the same experience?

On the other hand the TWD installation worked a treat.

    Some info >

The problems you've mentioned are unlikely to be related to the resistor that you've replace and the calibration adjustment. They are more likely caused by damage to the motor/spring mechanism while removing and or replacing the needle.

Therefore you may be faced with the same problem if you decide to revert back to the original speedo.

    Agree...

I had a bit of trouble getting the needle off. Took me about 10 minutes of patient prying... Found it easy in the end to turn the needle around (ie, from 0-180) and it would ever so slightly movie on the shaft. Combined that with a little upward pressure I managed to eventually get it off..
But I do also think if you put the 180 speedo back on it will have the same problem.

    Cheers,
    Will

It will be interesting to see what happens when you put it

    all back together again.

Just for the record, the needle no longer gets stuck on 120 but it's still slower than normal to respond.

By the way how does this spring inside the speedo work?

If the spring was damaged, the needle should not move at all I reckon.

Besides, the shaft came right off without hitting the speedo stoppers "below 0 or 180"
I don't see how it can be damaged but then again i'm not an expert on this.

    AndyMac Better than you

Fitted mine without a hitch...needle came off smoothly...>

went back on fine, calibrated fine, runs fine...i think you may need a new speedo mech

I've calibrated a few iDial speedos but only once...

actually twice, have I needed to remove the needle.

The way I did this was to remove the little needle stopper (the bit which the needle rest against when at 0km/h).

When you remove the needle stopper the needle will swing further back until the spring has lost its tension and the needle comes to a stop. You need to take careful note where it stops because when you replace the needle it needs to be pointing at the same spot.

I'm unsure whether failing to do the above would cause the symptoms you've described. However, it would make it impossible to calibrate the speedo. If the spring tension is not correctly set then it's only possible to calibrate a correct speed reading at one point along the face.

In other words if the spring tension wasn't correct, or the spring was no longer liner due to damage, and you attempted to calibrated the speedo so it was reading 80km/h when it showed 80 on the face. It would only be accurate when you were traveling at 80km/h anything below and above that would not be accurate.

    Hope the info helps

I've had my speedo up to 190 kmh, on the race track of course.

so the problem must lie with the speedo mechanism.

I think the needle shaft is pushed in too far in the speedo mech...

and the base is probably touching somewhere inside.

When I cruise on 110 with Cruise ctrl (that's all the CC goes up to) the needle shows 110. The progression of the needle is linear across the speed range. In that regard it is good but with the delayed reaction.

I will pull out the shaft out a little this w/end and see if that frees up the motion. Failing that, I think I will purchase a second hand speedo and ask for assistance from someone on this forum that has done this before and has worked.

I don't think I have the confidence to do this again.
Must admit though, i love the look of this 300km fascia!

There is a NSW tech day scheduled this weekend

There may be someone there that can help you out but it will be a bit of a drive for you.

I'm happy to take a look at it for you but at this stage I'm still a maybe for that event.

I won't be able to make it. Need to spend time with family

especially after last w/end - devoted the whole time to the car!

I will try to pull out the shaft a little and see how this goes 1st.

    Thanks guys
