New car new build thread, right? For ages I've been toying with the idea of getting a Z to "just drive" while my Twin Turbo is waiting for some custom fab stuff. This NA auto came up recently, which wouldn't normally be my thing, but after confirming it's a year 2000 build I couldn't not... At the moment the plan is to put it back to factory spec as much as possible. That's really all for now but I'll post some updates as I go.
Very nice Rob, I've been eyeing that one for ages, glad it's gone to a good home! So plan is to ditch the aftermarket skirts & rear bar then? Are you keeping it 2k NA spec or going for the full xenons / skirts / rear wing combo? Keeping the auto or going to swap it? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just pumped for the possibilities! Also next time your coming south give us a heads up for a cruise or to book you for work needed (timing kit coming up due...)
haha, it's literally the polar opposite to his other one, does seem an odd pairing. Surely this can't stay anywhere near stock for long
Ha no no no this is going back as close as the waybit left the factory as I can get it. I have a heavily updates one, this is the "civilian" Z for a while.
A little bit of an update. The exhaust on the car isn't really to my taste (straight pipes out the back and at least one of the centre resonators seems to have collapsed). I was really in two minds about this as on one hand I'd like to keep the car as original as possible, and on the other I'd rather not fit a second hand OE exhaust that's going to have at least as much wear and tear as the one coming off. Anyway I'm going down the route of a well built aftermarket system with stainless mufflers and tube, V bands etc etc. I'm using the Magnaflow cats, centre muffler and rear 14815 mufflers that I have for sale on my site, and some short (10") resonators from Racecraft in WA, and some raceworks stainless V bands. A few pics of the parts before it goes off to Mitchell at Favro Performance in the morning to join the dots.
Getting a few things before ZedFest. Out with the old bonnet pad and in with a new pad and a set of clips. Test fit a Brake Master Cylinder Brace. No racecar action here but hey got to make sure these things fit properly before inflicting them on the market so why not...
A couple of pics of the exhaust. I've kept the factory front pipes but had Mitch weld some expanders and V bands to them. He's done a killer job.
Theres something weird going on with this model being a 2kpsec and all as i enjoying trying to figure out what kind of model this z is. Ive noticed the front bar has been sprayed at some point due to the part between the fog lights and front indicators being body colour when from factory it would have been a flat black colour. Now in the recent pics the lower center chassis support panel is the same as the original is from the 89 models and It has no xenon headlights either but the brame master is differently from a 98-00 moxel so that fits, im guessing this is a absolutely base model with no options included.
My guess is the Xenon lights might have been removed for compliance or possibly there's a history of accident damage which would also explain any front bar paint discrepancy. Not familiar with the chassis support but could it be that this particular member is only different on convertible Zeds? There doesn't even appear to be the additional mounting holes for the other chassis support.
Xenon's were only standard on late model TT's, needed to option them on NA's Rob's probably got some new ones tucked away in box regardless!
Hi Guys, So there were a few versions and option packs released with series 6. This one is a "300zx" version with option pack 82 (thanks @ryzan). No xenons from factory. Does have auto climate control, marble finish on the door switches and stereo surround, illuminated rear side markers appear factory . The skirts are aftermarket this version didn't come with skirts. It's had an aftermarket kit (skirts and apron) and some paint associated with that. No evidence of accident damage but thanks lol. The tunnel brace is the one that fits the chassis. Oh and the indicators are the standard 2k black corners - the fender markers are nismo clear type.
Im pretty sure the ones robs got are for his tt model and getting replacements are near impossible or to expensive to justify for some people. i know ive tried Yeah i remember now the version r had a longer stiffer tunnel brace fitted which i thought were standard on all models in 2000 so my bad.
Little bit more playing around today. The car came with an Altia rear center panel that like most, didn't work. After digging around in the back and finding literally everything disconnected it was time to apply power and... So no bueno... I had wanted to fit an OE 2k panel to it anyway so out with the old, which was hiding a heap of @gmbrezzo's baradine dust... thanks @3clipse... anyway.... Gave that a cleanup and in with a new 2k centre and a new 2k OE silver brake light decal.
