Hey Guys, Just got a 1996 model VG30DETT and pulled the cam covers off to find cams with the same casting numbers as the cams i had out of a 1997 VG30DE. So I know it's just one motor but i would go as far to say that auto TTs don't have different cams. Any one got a S2 VG30DETT that they can tell me the casting numbers on their cams? I think maybe like the VCT being removed, the different cams for autos is USDM thing.
I shall answer here with a question...... Chilled pain what series cams are in the engine I got from you..... because they are different in profile to my series one manual cams (they appear to match the dimensions I read for auto S1 cams). I can not remember about the cams but I know the engine I got at one stage had some series 2 gear and I am not sure how much Jamie removed from it. I cut and pasted (and saved to notepad) these notes a while ago thinking it would be handy to keep. The measurements below are taken from camshafts with minimal to no wear so I believe them to be quite accurate. Note that these are not true base circle measuremnats but should be more than enought to help others identify cams in the future. manual intake lobe 1.591" outer base x 1.257" inner base, 0.334" lift auto intake lobe 1.564" outer base x 1.257" inner base, 0.307" lift manual cams have a green band auto cams have a yellow band Other than having them checked on a Cam Doctor there is no other way to determine what they are.
Yeah that is a really good point, I didn't even think of that. Surely the factory had someway of identifying the different cams though. Wouldn't you think they would grind them on different casting numbers for this reason? If this was the case why wouldnt they put the same numbers on the blocks and heads? I'll measure mine with a vernier tonight and see what i get and post it up.
