I have finally been able to spend some time on my V8 project.
I ended up rebuilding the engine and gearbox and have just put it back in the car...I know have to get everything else back into the engine bay. I still have a lot of work to do with regards to piping and brackets, but seeing it back in the car has given me some motivation. Hopefully I will find the time to progress it further quickly.

    Thanks

Hopefully its reliable and has a good v8 feel. I'm no mechanic so fingers crossed. Engine bay is just 2pac colour & clear over waterbased Cguard (stonechip paint) that you get from the local autobarn type places.

    Engine choice

Any 350 chev earlier than this one has a massive rear mount dizzy which fouls the wiper plenum. The LT1 has a front cam mounted dizzy mounted behind/below the water pump. I was actually looking at putting a 90's mustang 5.0l into it as they are fairly compact and easy to get some cheap horsepower out of. It was only by chance that I stumbled across an LT1 corvette front cut and it was really clean under the bonnet, pulled the rocker covers off and was also clean. I was planning to put it straight in the Z but checked the cam and a lobe was gone, hence the rebuild. The problem with the LT1 is most all parts and information need to come from the states. If I was to do it again, my head says to use a LS1/LS2 purely because of local availability of parts and tech. The LS1 has something like 50hp more than the LT1 in standard form but I do prefer the look of the LT1. I only did a mild build on this engine as I would like to drive it regularly, I was aiming at approx. 300 - 320hp at the wheels...see what happens.

    ZZZ300 the V8 looks great..
The LT1 are a nice choice.
The day my Corvette's motor needs work, the LT1 is what I want to replace the L98 with.

    Keep us updated...

isnt the main thing limiting power on the lt1 the cam profile?
so it just has alloy heads and cast block? gonna weigh alot more than an ls1!
what year model did it come from, was it from the comaro? or the c4 vette?
the power varied from year model to year model..

alot of thought has gone into this, well done

yeah, the best choice dude to simplicity, technology and availability would be the ls...but then you do what you want, not what is most practical...thats what modding is about lol

    top stuff mate

Yes, long way to go....lots of piping and brackets.

The majority of the 300zx stuff will bolt in fairly quickly.
The next pics I post will probably be then with it sitting on all 4 wheels.
During the dummy mount the nose of the car sat about 1" higher than with the TT motor in it, but that was without radiator and fluids.

During the rebuild I upgraded cam

to a Comp Cams 503 and believe this is where most hp gains can be made.
Yes, cast block with alloy heads...it would prob weigh more than LS1 but think it may end up weighing less than the original TT motor.
It was from a 1994 C4 Corvette so it's the 4 bolt motor.
The book I have says its 300hp net......whatever that means.
