Hi guys I recently bought a 300zx that had bad O rings in an injector as it was leaking petrol. I've taken the plenum off and replaced all O rings and placed everything back correctly afaik. Now when I start the car it turns and wants to start but just won't fire, does it look like everything is connected correctly? Also any suggestions? Edit: I should mention that this car started and was running before I disconnected what was needed to take the plenum off and access the injectors
Check too see if you have connected up the PTU , the cas, and that all your connections are on tight. Also in the tech section there is guide too checking your error codes from your ECU http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.415
Thanks for the suggestions, afaik the PTU's are all okay but I didn't mark them just replugged the ones I thought were correct (lol). The cas is also fine, is it possible this has something to do with an immobilizer? There's fuel going through the fuel line and it churns but no fire. I have no idea if this car had an immobilizer in it but there's a blue wire next to the battery that leads to the ignition.. edit I just rung the previous owner there's no immobiliser, could i have put a hose back into the wrong place?
Make sure all your coil packs are plugged in correctly , as for the blue wire sorry couldn't say, maybe one of the more knowledgeable members might have an idea about immobilizer wires.
After comparing the injector O rings the new ones are a little big bigger, not by much though. Could this cause the car to not start?
This one? I'm not sure why that looks like it's not connected but it is, maybe it wasn't at the time I'm mentally impaired. Also i managed to fix the first problem, aside from it catching on fire only once there is a very loud air leak, I took it for a drive since the probability of it catching fire twice in one day is low and noticed a lot of acceleration loss. Can anyone direct me in the right direction as to where this leak could be coming from? It looks like everything is connected. Yep that one - its for your fuel! Check also all your other hoses as it could be a vacuum leak but yep that one can cause your problems - find the hose for it and connect it! High idling can be a typical symptom of an air vacuum leak - the motor increases rpm to compensate - also check the throttle cables are right, this can also be a sign of high rpm - but its typically an air vacuum leak when its on 4000rpm Use a hose with a funnel on both ends ideally - this can help amplify where the air leak is coming from! hope it starts when you connect it - otherwise check your hoses again! I cant see your wiper hose - this can often get mixed up in the reassembly and you don't want wiper fluid going into your motor - double check it by following the line - sounds stupid I know but it seems to often get mixed up. Hope it starts when you reconnect the fuel vacuum line - it could be the problem all by itself - Well spotted QLDZDR! Good luck JC
Thanks for your help mate, the car is functioning well apart from catching fire once and leaking a lot of air. Will follow your instructions tomorrow, also it's 400RPM not 4000RPM Appreciate your guys help tonight ^-^
No worries mate! - I would say air leak is definitely your problem if its on 400rpm! But just check your throttle cables are right anyway - but my money is on a air vacuum leak! goodluck JC
Kaleb ... expand upon the catching fire episode .... that is extremely serious and could see the very quick end of your new Zed. Check and ensure that all fuel hose connections are tightly clamped including the hoses located below the battery and at the front of the upper plenum (below the throttle cable cover).

Do yourself a favor and buy a engine loom it solves all your wiring issues straight away iv spent days fixing problems with looms they crack an break on the plugs them water gets in then the fun begins they corode then get high resistance wires break and short .. I spent a whole day working on a loom re taping and replacing plugs cleaning the rest and the one I didnt replace on the AAC plug was broken wires touched and nearly destroyed loom as its only got a fusible link in circuit of a high value !! Luckily I acted quickly and only minor damage needed fixing .. Moral of the story is be done with it and replace it and fuell lines and clamps as well .. Just a note air con gas will be lost doing it as theres a plate behind evaperator that needs to be removed to remove loom and evaporator has 2 come out to get this can be done without pulling dash im actually doing this to my car ATM good luck Ps im an auto electrician so I know how bad they can get
Ps every time u do work on these cars they do this little caper been there a few times my cars have new looms and upgraded cooling systems and I never have a problem and no error code EVER its the best bit of maintenance u can perform as well as 5k servicing !!
Checked all of these numerous times, had some guys over to confirm this was all good and hadn't seen the problem again. RIP my 2nd 300ZX. Fire started in the exhaust, fire brigade couldn't identify the cause any ideas?
oh my God, Kaleb ... that is disastrous ... !!! hope that you had insurance. I feel for you and the effort you have put into that Zed. Cannot really help with tech assessment but a fire in the exhaust would need an accelerant .. with the earlier issues, I can only imagine fuel .. ???
