With the new dials my gauge cluster has gone to 280km/h now. I remember vaguely a long time ago someone mentioned a resistor could be wired in somewhere on the IC board under the Speedo to accommodate.

I know theres 2 pot resistors on the board, and I understand you can adjust those to get the desire effect, but those require a signal generator which I do not have.

Does anyone know if this is even possible? How to do it? A link to somewhere I can read?

Tried searching but couldn't really find anything specific. :(

I got mine done professionally when i got my 320km/hr speedo...have a look at a professional speedo repair shop and they should be able to do it for you...unless you want to do it yourself.

There's an excellent Speedo/Instrument workshop just down the road from you Emile(Glossop St)L/Hand side, just up from Forrester Rd.(I used them to re-calibrate my 300kph speedo).

Thank you very much guys for the suggestions! Should have it all sorted now very soon. :)

Spoke to one Speedo shop near me today and he said to re-calibrate my Speedo, he would want $75 incl GST.

I'm all for paying for a good job, but something about that just doesn't seem right. Especially considering how simple a job this is and how very little time it would take.

Does this seem fair to anyone else?

I was expecting more around the $20-40 mark. Given that I was going to hand him just the Speedo gauge itself, so all would be needed would be to power it, hook up signal generator, adjust Pots, finish. All of a 10-15 job, if that, considering they are an Instrument Repair shop, so yea, this is what they do all day...

consider a lot of places can charge a min of 1 hour and admin fees etc all little extras to cover overheads, not saying its ethical but it does happen, so it sounds like a standard minimum charge to me.

Yeah, it sounds like a minimum Service Charge(and it is about the same as what I was charged two years ago, by the same workshop).
Overheads to run and maintain a Calibration/Repair service are quite restrictive, due in part to having to keep test instruments Certified regularly(by a Certified Calibration & Standards Laboratory). Look at it this way, once your Speedo is calibrated, you can argue all day with the HP Police about whether you were speeding or not.:p:br::rofl:

Well in all honesty I was leaning towards just caving in and letting him just do it, but apparently he won't have time to do it till Wednesday next week... really?

    Look around :)

I got told $70 as well and they would need my cluster for a day. I looked around and found another place for $50 i believe...probably could have found a cheaper one but this was the closer option, so i went with that.

It all depends on how quick you want it. Maybe try talking to the guy and saying you need it done asap, and see if he is willing to help you out.

Im sure there is more than 1 shop that can do it for you.

    Goodluck :)

So I've been calling around Sydney the past week...

1 place said they won't deal in small jobs like that. Another place said they're booked for well over 2 weeks. One place asked for minimum of $250 for the job. Two places told me to 'just do it yourself then', when I mentioned that I have basic understanding of what was required and the capacitor & resistor values needed... and not in a nice sort of 'oh that sounds easy enough, why don't you have a go at it yourself', but more of a 'well f*ck, if you think you're that clever do it yourself ya prick'.

    ...Really?

So I'm now considering getting it sent interstate somewhere. Anyone have any suggestions please?

I did it myself very successfully, but you have to be prepared to do a little soldering and you need a function generator and DC power supply. Getting it done for $75 seems like a good deal IMO.

I'd happily do it myself if I did have a signal generator. I guess the other option would be borrow one for an afternoon?

And yea, I may just bite the bullet and get it done there. Called them up again, and last week they said Wednesday, yesterday they said 'unfortunately you didn't book... so got to be at least next week, possibly the week after'.

    $75?
Doesn't sound so bad after all, does it(I won't say "I told you so", but I did, didn't I)?:p;):zlove::br:

I paid $120, he changed the face to the 300klm.hr one, calibrated the cluster, fitted stainless facia, polished the plastic face.

Cluster looked like new when it came back.

I thought that was a good deal

DIY is pretty easy for this. Get a 20K ohm 10 turn trim pot from jaycar. Remove R10 resistor from speedo pcb, solder in pot. Using consult/datascan/ecutalk, adjust pot to get correct speedo reading. You can do this by just putting the car on jack stands and run it up to about 80km/h or more if you like.

Not trying to take the Mickey out of you, but how will he know what speed the car is doing(with sufficient accuracy)to be able to calibrate the speedo accurately)?:confused:

Consult/ECUtalk would be getting the km/h reading wouldn't it? (straight from speed sensor off the gearbox)... then when the computer says I'm doing 60, 100 or whatever, adjust POT resistors to match... right?

And Lloyd, I'm not so much annoyed now with the price, but the stupid waiting list. I bit the bullet and just booked in for the earliest time... 13th Feb.

Look at it this way Emile, if a workshop is all booked up(and it's prices are "industry Standard")then it suggests that they might have a very strong reputation for quality workmanship, and could be worth the wait(and the cost).:zlove:
