hey just wondering what is involved in a 100k nd what does it do ie plennum pull etc etc et?? cheers jamie
100K service and plenum pull are unrelated. 100K service is timing belt, tensioner, idlers, water pump etc etc. If the timing belt or idlers/tensioner fail it will pretty much destroy your motor as most of the valves will bend when they hit the pistons.
In a nutshell, replaces all the external, wearable mechanisms for valve timing, including associated oil seals. So Timing belt and associated bearings and tensioners, and any oil seals made accessible during this operation. It's false economy to ignore any aspect of the service, while oil seals may not be leaking, it's easy to do while all the covers and belts are off, if they leak further down the track, it's basically doing the whole service again. If it's your first time, allow 2 days to do it.
If you are reasonably competent mechanically and have a well stocked tool box. This is a lot more involved than changing your oil or brake pads. If you have to ask why you have to change a timing belt then you may not be in the "reasonably competent mechanically" category
no i wasnt going to do it i was just curious as to what gets changed and why i changed the belts spark plugs oil n brakes over on my skyline but thats a walk in the park compared to looking at the vg30 =P
Thats why I said 2 days. I did the last one in 2 hours, although I have no timing covers and no clutch-fan, so I really didn't need to remove anything to start.
Did that include crank and cam seals and water pump? Coz I call BS on doing a full 100K service in 2 hours. Even I'm not that good
The OP: I answered the first half of his QU- What is involved, ie "what steps should I take when doing a 100K service". Yes I was being a smartarse, but you gotta have a sense of humor when the same question gets asked literally HUNDREDS of times. Hence not wanting to write an essay in this particular instance. You've been around long enough to know this... I forgive you for looking for the easy way out. I like to help those who can help themselves. I put you on the right path from the start, between my douchebaggery and everyone else's helpful posts regarding this job, I'm sure you will apply yourself and shred thru it (or your valvetrain, one or the other )
lol all good i understand i get the same questions on the snake fourm my snake wont eat wats the best python for me does a python bite hurt. thanks guys
lol...read my avatar. . . . . . . and no, the seals I did previously, and I don't have a water pump...I use an electric one. Included, all idlers and studs, timing belt, drive belt (only have one now, it's for the power steering), tensioner and thermostat. So for MY car, it was almost a full 100k service...at 10k Seeing basically most of those km's were at full throttle.
