    Hey guys,
After reading on the forums how so many young zed owners don't properly maintain their zeds, i did my timing belt service today using the deluxe kit supplied by TTZ.

I replaced everything except for the cam seals, and the problem is that when i start up my car, it makes this terrible squealing noise for about 5 seconds and then stops.

I did a search and found info. on adjusting my fan belt, but could this be the problem, since the squealing only goes for a little while at start up?

Even if it isnt a big deal, it is hugely embarrassing starting up my gorgeous z, only to hear this ridiculously sh*tty noise!! (its loud!!)

Please give me any advice, because im going back to my mechanic tomorrow so that he can hopefully find the problem and fix it.

    Cheers

Most likely to be the alternator belt, goes away shrotly after starting. happended to Magic Mike at Cowra too. Just tighten her up a bit.

yup sounds like one of the belts are a lil too loose. check and re-tighten.

Mine did the exact same thing after fitting the service kit, except, after the belt squeal, came a more annoying, loud whirring noise. Turned out to be the alternator bearings decided to pack it in. All fixed now, and I must say, the Zed has never run better, in all the time I've had it.

Does that mean that everything needs to be removed again (ie, all the belts etc) to fix the alternator?

I dont like the idea of paying for the labour to remove everything AGAIN so that the alternator can be attended to.

Anyone have an idea how much it would cost to replace an alternator, or is there a simpler way to get rid of the noise?

Have you tried tightening the drivebelts yet? That is normally the problem.

The alternator can be removed from underneath the car if you drop the swaybar.

No. Read the tech article on 'removing alternator'. It ended up costing me about $320.00 to have my alternator fixed, but, they replaced the internal regulator as well. That alone cost $128.00, according to the invoice. That was with me pulling the alternator out, and refitting, of course. At least I know, that I'm not going to have a problem with it now, for a long time. My only problem under there now is, my P/Steering pump has decided that it wants some attention too, and the leaky seal has started to get worse. It is a vicious circle, ;) .

Get that fixed ASAP, it WILL kill you alternator.

Yeah, I know. It's really starting to frustrate the hell out of me, doing these repairs, only to have something else stuff up, the moment I get it all back together. Besides, I have to wait, until all my currently busted knuckles heal, and I get the time. :(
