not enough for a 300zx sadly.. I only applied for 10k, i dont want a 20k loan on my shoulders at the moment, i do only work part time still.Im thinking of getting a 2.0l NA silvia (go on, laugh it up!) i want a nissan, i want 2 doors, i dont want anything too old, and i want RWD, lol that narrows it down to very few choices.
And i MUST have full comp insurance due to it being a car loan.
Would like a silvia turbo, but insurance will rape me!Any suggestions?btw im thinking if i drive it for a year or so, i can probally sell it and pick up a 89' 300zx NA for around 10k or cheaper.
Either that or drive it for a few years, get off my P's, and then get a TT. :-0

    Up to you but....

The move about getting an NA over a turbo is sound, drive an NA around for a few years lower your insurance rating (by driving carefully, no street racing :p as below) and maybe then you can get a TT at a price you can afford the up keep on.One thing though you already have a Gemini, which I take it is reliable and cheap to run. Maybe this is just me, but taking out a loan on a car than you really dont want (you want a ZX right?), is something I wouldnt do.I would keep the Gem providing it will last, save some money for a few years then go straight to the Z, saves on interest and you can cheapen things further by keeping 3rd party to bring down your rating while you save.Thats my 2 cents worth anyway.RegardsMark

    Agreed with Markga...>

Why waste your time on a car you don't really want. Yes in about a year 89 zeds will be cheap, but your Silvia will always devalue heaps, and you'll lose a lot more then you could possibly gain. I'm sure you could pull an extra 3k to get a zed anyway. But there nothing wrong with that gemmy, looked fine to me, actually you could prolly sell that gemini for a couple of grand.I wouldn't do it Nat, but it's up to you.

Agree with markga, there isn't much

point in spending that sort of money on a car that you really don't want.If you loaned/saved another few thousand you could pick up an 89 TT Zed. Keep the Gemini, put the Zed in the garage for a few years and work on it slowly (polish it everyday! :p). By the time your ready to drive it, it will be an immaculate example of a Zed.That's just another option to consider. At least it will give time to iron out any problems it may/will have before you start driving it regularly.Cheers

    they are all right

you should wait, a 10K loan, is going to take a while to repay, you don't want to be able to have afforded a Z but you can't because you still have a loan hanging over your head, for a car you didden't really want/need.... Dont give up the Z dream!!you should save the extra few thou, and then start looking for an NA Z, I have seen some nice examples here going for 13K

    Matt or Nat?....few awnsers >

yeah even if i could save a couple more G's, ill get RAPED by insurance in a 300zx. no way i could get a 300zx + insurance for under 15k.The reason i want to get another car is that every payday and whenever im bored i go and do stuff to my car. Its so pointless doing heaps to my gemi.I have next to nothing in the bank (if you look in my bedroom you'll see why, ive spent $1000's) and put a fair bit of $$ into the gemi in the last month or 2.
So this 10k loan im going to use to cover insurance and the car. This is a big reason why its impossible for me to get a Z.
im thinking, silvia for 8k, insurance for 2k.
comon, atleast im going to get a nissan!

If your financial situation is that bad...

Would it be wiser to start to stash some money away? Sure with 10k you can buy an 8K car and have 2 left for insurance, but what about the next year with out the loan, can you be strict enough to budget for another premium?

If you can than fair enough, but spending money for the sake of it doesnt make sense, as the saying goes "you need a pot to p_ss in" ;-))Also might be interesting to compare comp insurance on a Sylvia and on a Z, maybe there wont be a lot of difference.

All the best with the decision dude!

    You should look at getting

an R32 skyline GTS, It would be a much better choice than the silvia, better performance and better looks, they are really low in price now, I have seen some going for 10.5KOR.... Here is an ad from this weeks tradingpost. NISSAN 300ZX 1991 Metallic Grey coupe 3ltr 5sp manual 2 seat non turbo, pwrst, ABS brakes, electric windows, mirrors, seat, climate control, all original GC -$11000 Beaudesert (0407) 774 897 or 3712 3126

nah its not bad at all

like i said, ive spent $1000's recently on turning my bedroom into a mini lounge with the works (3 seater couch/coffee table/68cm tv/dvd player/vcr/$600 tv unit/bout $1500 in dvd's) and been doing bits and peices to my car.ive decided ive done enough to my room and would rather spend my money on something else.thanks for the advice dude but ive talked it over with my parents and thought about it a fair bit. I can afford to make double payments too, i obviously wont strait away, first couple months will be going towards a few mods, but i can pretty easily put down double payments and still have a life :)and Blade, dunno man i dont really want a skyline, as sad as it may sound, ild prefer a NA silvia over a NA skyline. :-0markga, i noticed you live in vic, did i meet you at jedi's tech day?

How much does it cost to compliance...>

A zed that's already in the country? I've found a NA 300zx with a f%^(ed front bar and slight damage to the guards. In materials and paint etc it will prolly only add up to about $1200. And the guy is asking $5500 for itand I'm sure you could talk him down. Engine seems fine (for the little bit of knowledge I do have) I was thinking of buying it fixing selling it and making a couple of g's. But was thinking it wuld be good for you, and coz you live in dandy it's close to panel shop. Only prob is I have no idea how much/what to do to compliance it....Just an idea, maybe you should consider it?

It will still only be about 9k???

Insurance will probably be more on a Silvia anyway, there one of those 'blacklist' cars aren't they?

Sounds like you could have been well

on the way to having a ZED if you hadnt have spent all that money. It just a matter of priorities. Saving is not spending. (or at least not until you have saved enough to get what you want.)

    yep! so true

coulda well been on my way to a z if i didnt buy heaps of stuff for my room. What do you spend more time doing? being at home, or in a car? so i decided i wanted to get my room fixed up nicely first off then i can put all my spare cash into a car.
