the last few days ive been noticing a kind of whirrling sound coming from either the gearbox or back of the gearbox while driving. It seems to occur when i accelerate and then fade away. Now ive had my gearbox checked and ive been told by an auto specialist there is nothing wrong with the box. No error codes, no problems from what they found during road testing. Now i know my tailshaft has a vibration so im thinking it could be the shaft getting worst and i now that ive got this whirrling sound i think its time i get a 1 piece shaft to replace the old one which is probably one its way out. Wheres the best place in vic to get it done??? I remember there was some guy everyone stated was the best i dont know who he is and where he is.
Got mine done through Joe back at the start of the year. Made a TRUCKLOAD of difference (ie I didn't realise how badly the vibration had become)
cheers thanx guys. Im hoping once i get this done ill have no more problems mechanical wise. Joe did suggest in the report i had for the gearbox thingy a 1 piece tailshaft.
I do know that they outsource the tailshaft stuff to someone in Knox. Not sure if it is the contact Simon put forward though.
Its a zed.... there will always be something meachanical to spend money on.. I had my tailshaft / uni joint drama's sorted out by Joe. Cheers
yeh sweet thanx guys, i think ill go to joe and have him work on it for me. Just curious how much did joe charge for the tailshaft replacement and install?? Im guessing $500+
I got my tailshaft made up by Jeff and installed it at my place, the reason being that jeff needs your old tailshaft to make a new one from so if you get it done at a garage they have to have your car sitting around for how ever long it takes Jeff to make up the new one. (about 4 days in my case) Mine cost about $350 but he told me prices of some of the stuff he used have gone up a little so that may not be exact anymore. It won't be too far off though. I don't know ho wmuch difference being an auto makes but in my 2+2 manual it was actually quite easy.
cheers thanx guys for the tips and advice. Since i posted this ive discovered that its not my tailshaft making the whirrling sound but a exhaust gasket under the back LH seat which is creating an open exhaust sound when driving. I do still think a 1 piece shaft is needed but it make not be as bad as first thought so ill first get this exchaust gasket fixed and see how i go.
