Niall, minimising lag with the larger turbines will be more beneficial than outright power. So upgraded cams are not needed, or head work for that matter.

Adam I can't recommend enough NQ Engine Reconditioning to do all the bottom end prep and assembly they did on my engine. They do the lot in house except balancing which they get Barbgallo in Ayr who is one of th best in the business.

The business is run by two brothers, Narge who is the guy you deal with and John who is the engine assembly guru.

if they are .84 you will be lucky to make decent boost before 5grand?

Adam, i have a few things to add but unfortunately i have to disagree with eric on a few things. these are just my opinions.

Cometic headgaskets are good but can weep coolant if head surface and deck surface are not prepared in accordance with manufacturuers instructions.

Eric said dont bother with headwork, i disagree, if you have the heads off id get a mild port job done or something similar to my port correction job if you can get it done at the right price.

I wouldnt bother with rods, but i would recommend a full engine balance , especially if you are running a UDP, these motors are not as well balanced as they would lead you to belive.

you can count on the fact that you will need alot of new valves, possibly all, so keep money aside for that.

I dont think an upgraded radiator is required , id be using stock and spend your money on a radiator service, brand new clutch and fan

buy some ARP headstuds as they are not alot more than stock ones and can be reused

a sard fuel reg is optional, it wont be needed for that power level unless your old reg is old and rooted.

nistune is also just a suggestion, if ur ECU is already chipped then a good chip tune will get you good results.

again, i have different views to eric but thats the idea isnt it. its up to you to decide.

Cometic has released a new head gasket that is supposed to not leak like the old ones. I still prefer to use oem gaskets at these sort of power levels, they are very good.

    Oh yeah, I forgot balancing.

Hmm, starting to think i may need to invest in new, smaller, exhaust housings.

How much would i be looking at?

yeah im using OEM gaskets at the moment and im headed towards 20psi and probably 300rwkw, no problems with the gaskets but i cant help thinking id be happier with cometic gaskets and ARP bolts.....

Oem gaskets are more than adequate at that power level, Arp studs would be a good idea but.

Exactly the sort of stuff i want to hear, ofcourse everyone has different opionions, i'm keen to hear as many as i can and learn from other people's mistakes and experiences so i don't have to make my own mistakes.

Yes i already have ARP studs on my list.

I already got the radiator, i figured price to get mine rodded etc, i might aswell just get a new thicker alloy one.

Thanks for the tip on a balance, i haven't decided on UDP or not yet.

I was thinking of just getting the chip tune and if i wasn't happy then i could always look for something else.

I'm keen to replace the rods as, like i said, i know of a guy who snapped one at 297rwkw, chances are this won't happen to me...but to eliminate any chance I'm happy to fork out the $600 for the rods.

    thanks mate,

    Adam

if you can afford the rods then freat, because they already have ARP bolts and are well balanced to begin with, but just dont underestimate how much the essentials of a stock build can cost. without going into the upgraded stuff.

Yeah i have a list happening with the lowest price quotes I've been getting.

Isn't TOO bad at the moment, i'd post the prices up but not sure if vuk@AMS or others would be ok with that. I'll check with him if anyone requests prices.

Everyone seems to whack a .64 on these size turbos, from what i can read from searching. The only info i can see is that this "reduces lag" i can't seem to find info on how much by? Wanting to know how much laggier these would be. Anyone able to help me out?

Noob question but, how hard is it to change this and how much $$$?

    Thanks,

    Adam

    You have

to find a compressor map, and see where the efficiency islands are for that compressor.

    BLACK BEAST SLICKTOP TT R-SPEC

    from my experience be careful

high boost hitting rev limiter with stock gaskets = fail

3 engines later will always use a metal head gasket now ..

Make sure you upgrade exhaust aswell, catback systems are still very restrictive especially in high boost applications.

Full exhaust with high flow cats/mufflers etc before anything...
