    Hi guys,

my Zed has always had a bit of a jolt when changing up from 1st. It's just a bit annoying really but i'm trying to get the car running as well as I can.
The only time it doesn't happen is if I floor it, but that aint so practical around the city!

Anyone have an idea what might be causing it and a solution?

    Cheers,

    Andy

Get your TPS voltage checked for a start, and make sure you are not in Power mode via the switch next to the gear selector.
You are in QLD, so if you can make it to the AZA grand opening (check "coming events section"), I can check it for you there.

Would love to know the answer to this too. Checked my TPS (quite thoroughly actually  ), and also did a complete fluid flush, but same problem... Actually, its precisely the same symptoms as fontii has...

I have a feeling the box is on its way out, but i am hoping for a miracle :)

The TPS reading was going all over the show. The contacts on the TPS were notg clean though, so i'm gonna have a go at cleaning them up and then re-test it.

    UPDATE

Solved the problem of dodgy gear change by running the car with various TPS positions. Some were quite obviously crap- idling at 2k, changing up from first at 6k, etc, but now i've got one i'm happy with where the change is very smooth.

    OMG! I LOVE THIS FORUM!

Funny thing is, the old TPS didnt look bad. Voltage sweep seemed fine in ECUTalk, and sat consistently on 0.46 at idle... But after changing the TPS to the new one i got from Ebay, the gearchange became much smoother, and its at 3000 rpm every time. Still slightly noticeable, but it is night and day compared to before. I am soooo happy!

I have put up with dodgy gearchanges ever since i bought this car, thinking that the only fix was to rebuild the gearbox. I just used to back off the accelerator at around 3000RPM and let it change gears while it was coasting... Now I have to train myself to accelerate smoothly again, because i cant seem to stop backing off before the change!

One thing i did notice is that starting the car takes a tiny bit longer than before? 3 seconds instead of an almost instant start... Could it be related?

I have this same problem. I had my TPS replaced last year. Possibly its faulty again?!

Check your top Diff bushes, my zed had a terrible 'kick' from 1st to 2nd after changing the diff, turned out the top diff bushes hadnt been put in. Put them in and she is as sweet as.

    What TPS voltage

did you finish running with - I have had the same problem for 4 years???

From what i understand, it isnt so much what your idle voltage is (mine was a rock-solid 0.46v), rather it is the voltage that it gives when you are accelerating in the mid-range.

The TPS should read between 0.46, smoothly up to 5.5v or something
But if the TPS is bad, it might read smooth from 0.46 to 2v, then all over the place after that.

In that case, adjusting the TPS one way or the other would mean that the TPS gives a correct voltage at half throttle (but might still be bad at 3/4 throttle)

Or you could change to a new TPS for correct readings all through the accelerator range...

Ok, now the TPS has been set at the correct voltage and I still have the same problem with the auto change-

car absolutely slams from 1st to 2nd

'clunk' can sometimes be heard, usually when the gear changes at the same time as the accelerator is eased off.

Any advice appreciated. Car is with the mechanic this week, so would be good if I could get things sorted.

    Cheers

cheers, thought I might have to do that, but wanna get an idea of what it could be before I go. Someone mentioned it could be related to the top diff bushes?

Mine jolts to every since I got it rebuilt and modified at a place Pexy reffered me too and figured it was because of the modifications carried out. I like it in fact, makes it feel more for drag and sometimes I can get it to chirp the tyres.

The one thing that pisses me off is the auto power on which comes on just buy pushing the accelerator too quick when I'm driving normally. Thats when it holds gear longer and I'm waiting for the damn thing to shift. Sometimes I just switch to hold or power then back to normal to switch it off. No worries when gunning it but is there away to disable it?

I don't understand why they needed to put that in as well as a switch. if I want it to hold gear for longer I'll flick the switch thank you very much :bash:

    hmmmm

....i may have to look into mine now. Ever since i had my car the gear changes have been rough and I have to ease off the accelerator alot to allow a change. Good info ppl :)

Diff bushes, Check bushes 13,14,15 in the pic below.

I found 13 + 14 were destroyed in my Zed and were causing a very uncomfortable jolt when changing gear. I originally thought it was the transmission but after having a look the problem was quickly fixed by fitting new bushes. $120 for all 6 genuine Nissan parts (3 for each side-13/14+15) which was a huge relief when I was thinking it was the transmission.
