    latest year for import WHICH WILL COMPLY is 1997 due to the dual airbag issue and that goes for 2+2TT also but because of the low demand for them the 3 registered workshops that do 300zx only do the 2 seaters.

    YES = SEVS approval 012/00

    Almost there, well back where I was anyway six or so contributions ago. They do have SEVS approval which Wildside confirms TT 2+2 SEVS approval 012/00, the earliest date for import = made in 10/1996, but I don't think Clara is quite right. The key is the day the ADR changed to dual bags which I believe (but don't know for a fact) was around the middle of 1998. If someone could pin that down (for a fact) that would give me an exact window, and I have talked to a RAWS certified garage who will do them for "us", as I said for a price.

    Re the dual airbags, there are ways around that as well - NATA certified crash testing for example, but expensive.

    Still hanging in there

    Thanks

    but this was not a mate but one of the compliance shops and he had the cars. My group buy comment was about "later" model ZEDS, not the R34s.

    My understanding is that limited demand is only half of the reason why no-one is currently complying them. Limited availability in Japan was quoted to me as the other half of the reason, hence my question as to how many could you get and how much would they cost. Not an idle question - I could probably fund a dozen, easily, and the full compliance process costs.
    regards
    Terry

    A call to the search function would be faster. Blipman has been over this.

    Apologise profusely

    for the typo, but you still avoided my question. Sense a lot of bluster and little substance here.

    There are some other things to think about...

    The 96+ Zeds were not sold here, in the US or Europe, which probably means only sold in Japan. There probably isn't an english language Workshop Manual.

    Lots of things are different;
    ECU, Airbags, Electric Hicas, brake system, suspension, AIVs (no loss), EGR, and heaven knows what else.

    ConZult won't work either, there are no parts in Australia, and all the solid experience of members of this forum would probably be reduced to deductive reasoning and best guess.

    I looked for a long time at a Black 1997 2+2 Manual TT with a genuine 16,000km in Melbourne. It was owned by a IP lawyer and imported new and hardly used. The owner wanted $29,000. For all of the reasons above, I decided against it. It also would have taken away the fun (and frustration) of re-building my own to my own preference. Anyway, that Zed sold last Saturday week for $27,000.

    About last week.....

    Last week he and I were having a look at what's available now in 300ZXs. It came about because there was a guy on here from Perth wanting to buy one and I though he would do better to import his own.

    The outlook didn't look good. Pre 96 cars were fairly cheap but anything from 97 onwards were going for Y800,000 or more. Cars with a 98 plate were going for over a million which he didn't seem to think was justified.:confused:

    I am on the Yahoo Japan auction listing and also alerts from about 4 auctions. I'll keep an eye out and see what comes up but this kind of stuff takes planning, speed and money. I have the ability to do the first. Can you handle the second and third?:)

    Hey AB! Trust you to come along and ruin a perfectly good "What if?" thread, by injecting a small amount of common sense reasoning.
    I suppose Santa Claus is not really a North Pole resident either(and I won't even mention the furry little critter with the chocolate eggs).
    Damn you!:bash::zlove::zlove:

    It's a shame CHILI....

    Whilst I agree with some of ABs comments I also think that somewhere back a while....if nobody bothered to go outside the conservative square.....many of us wouldn't be driving the cars we currently do!:)

    The TT Zed would have been too complex....Skyline GTRs would have been too powerful for our fuel and Supras would have had issues with spares etc.

    Someone has to open the gates.....the flood will truly follow!:)

    Gee! Sorry mate.

    I didn't realise you were enjoying this rather fanciful thread. :rolleyes:

    Luckily Wildstyle is here to save us all from these sanity attacks. I'm thinking of throwing away my encyclopaedias now he is on the Forum. :p (Note the proper use of the dipthong. It is terrible to be old and literate in a world where everyone is younger and speaks in SMS :( )

    The expression is "Hear Hear" and the word you were struggling with is "rambunctuous" :p :p

    I'll try to be stronger in future. :D

    spencer @ nissport has a genuine 2k spec 2+2 manual in black. he brought that in before all these regulations. i've gone for a spin in it (no i didn't get to drive it) but it was the best zed you will ever see. done only 19,000KMs, still has that new car smell and completely original apart from a full 3" exhaust system.

    it's such a shame that there's so many cars we cannot bring over now :(

    Remember that new 2000 model Zed for sale

    in Adelaide for $106,000 back in 1994? 1995?. It was listed for sale for ever. Yellow if I recall. I wonder whatever happened to it.
