    Hey all,

Guys, I just came home from my mates house and tonight was nothing short of a down pour of rain in Sydneys west, which admittedly is exactly what we need. Though I hate with a passion taking out my car when i is raining or going to rain because I know for a fact I will walk away almost as wet as my rims!!
The leak is on both sides, and is coming from the connection of the actual car frame and the removable roof. Also it is at the side closer to the front windscreen rather then the rear. Hopefully this isnt throwing you off to much, but I am after a solution for this problem! Something quick fix, and then the long term solution.

Any ideas or those who have experienced similar dramas with this situation, your feed back would be awesome!

    Kind Regards,

    Jase.

There are drain holes in the targa roof, take off the targas ,get an air compressor and blow down the holes as they sound like they may be blocked.
After doing that, pour some water in the channel and see if it drains out the bottom you will see it coming out under the body.
I did this to another members car a couple of weeks ago and it fixed the problem ;) ;) :zlove:

    leak

There is a num inside the door frame behind the seatbelt upper attachment bolt. To get at it, wind window down, remove the plug in the outside of the trim, remove screw. remove seat belt and then remove trim from behind seatbelt. remove piece of black tape over the hole if its still there and tighten nut (10mm)

I read this acouple of weeks back and it has helped for me. Sorry I cant remember who to give the credit to...

Is this in the correct thread??:confused::confused::confused: How the Hell can a nut inside the door, fix a leaking Targa panel?

The only short term fix is to smear Vaseline all over the area where the rubber moulding on the targa meets the rubber moulding on the bodywork. This effectively makes the water find a new path.

    Window Nut...

Sorry I was a bit brief...

The nut holds the top of the window track in the back edge of the door, theory is that a loose track allows window to move and water to leak past the seal.

My leak is reduced but not completely cured.

    Mine is the same

I thought mine was due to the rubber seal being folded over for a long period of time (before I got the car) and now the rubber is folded and nothing I have done can get it back into shape. The window runner idea sounds like it might work for me because it seems like the water is getting in mainly alongside the window and not actually the seal.
Will give it a go tomorrow... something to keep me occupied for a few minutes.

OK! Understand where you are coming from now.
Some may leak along the window edge(although the majority leak where the Targa rubbers meet the frame rubbers at the top outer corners).

    Drain holes didnt work!!!

    Hey Guys,

Today I gave the drain holes thing a shot! I got a air hose, stuck it in da hole and blew it like all hell broke loose!
I then proceeded to gently pour water in the trough and water was rapidly went through the hole and I viewed it going coming out from under the car.. But in saying that, the hole was never blocked!!! What am I to do?! I need help. The car looks beautiful, it goes unreal, but feels so cheap with that damn leak!!! If I take out a girl for our 1st dinner date, and it leaks on her, she'll bus it home!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HELP!!!

    hey mate
i can't give you much advice, but have you tried a search? There has been plenty of threads about this, and you may find some useful tips and hints to maybe narrow down your problem.

one thing i've always wondered, what happens if you try with the targa's off another person's car? does that narrow the problem down at all? depends where its leaking of course.
    cheers

    Re : Leaking targas.....

Before you start smearing vaseline, KY gel, baby oil etc etc all over the place you should try the "sunshine method", it worked for me.

Firstly, find a stinking hot day (not hard at this time of year), pop the lids and park in the front/back yard (for security) in direct sunlight. Leave it there all day (or as long as possible) and the sun will heat the rubbers allowing them to expand into their original cushion shape without the pressure of the targas. Open the rear hatch because that rubber also squashes.

If you look at the rubbers when you take off the targas, you'll notice they are squashed flat. Look again at the end of the day in the sun and you should notice a difference in their shape.

Hope this helps (it's worth a try, and you don't have "lube" all over the show)

ok guys i think ive worked my problem out, except of course my girlfriend has my camera with her so ill have to try and explain it to u guys.

when i poured water into my drain hole they all worked good so i was thinking what else could it be?! then after about a minute i noticed a water dripping onto my seat.

what my problem is that the rubber that makes the water damn up and forces it to run down the hole has come unglued ( or what suspiciously looks like black tar) and water can run between the rubber and the chassis down the where the targa hits the window looking like a buggered seal (which it is in a way... kinda...)

think that may be the problem for some of u guys too

    anyways hope this helps.

ps. anyone good a good sugestion with what i should reglue it with? was thinking silicone of some kind...

I found the same problem with mine. I used some speaker sealant I had laying around from when I built my sub box. It's similar to blu tac but stickier, available from Jaycar. It's not leaking a year later so I can attest to it doing the job.

Water leaks into my car through the rubber seals which the windows sit up against when they are wound up. How can i go about fixing it?

I just did that to mine...

And the top of the window sits much more firmly against the seal after tightened it about 3/4 of a turn. I didn't test it but looks like it seals a lot better.
While I was at it, I put some of the thermal mat (under bonnet stuff from Autobarn) behind the link assembaly for the door - the one at the top. That stopped an annoying rattle that I have had since buying the Z.:D

    Leaking targas...

Refer to my reply elsewhere re new targa seals. Prob'ly just as easy to repeat here:
Very expensive to replace as new items. You can sometimes get good replacement seals from JustJap in Kirrawee, Sydney (check most Aussie motor mags for address etc) or Cresta Spares in Brisbane (check Items For Sale by Businesses this forum).
If it's just leaks allowing rain in at targa/windscreen joints, I have successfully used old tyre tube rubber cut to provide a cigarette-sized shape when rolled up (can be shorter, depending on how much the targa rubber has softened) and insert same inside the weather seal where the access hole for the attaching screws are. Simply insert the rolled-up tube and allow it release and the expansion holds the rubber seal tighter from the inside and works as a good reasonable-term weather seal.
