I earn the money to keep my Z32 on the road by selling new Holdens.

I can tell you that the VE design is definitely NOT based at all on any of the Opels, unlike all previous Commodores. It is a completely clean-sheet design, done out of the Aussie operation at GM Holden.

Furthermore, the platfrom is also all-new, and we should be proud of the quality work done by Aussie engineers, 'coz their work has been recognised at the highest level at GM HQ in the USofA to the extent that GM Holden now has responsibility for all future RWD large cars globally for GM.

Most of the posters have got it right; it is just a wee bit silly trying to compare our Zeds to say an SS. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, depending on your needs and wants.

i saw a red one today with all that black material all over it.
looked like any other commonwhore i've seen. but i guess the gaurds do add a small bit of niceness to something i have never liked. i would much rather buy any japanese car over a holden. even a korean one if i was pushed to it. i just don't like this stupid holden ford battle crap so i'll just not buy either.

If iwas ever to buy a family car it will never be a holden or ford. Volkswagen Passat's are crazy cars and they have turbo diesel technology aswell.

Yeah i could never see myself in a family car (odd considering i am currently selling one) but i just dont like them, if i was to have a family i would get a 2 door family car such as a skyline or something

Do you really know what you are talking about, (its spelt Monaro, by the way) and they were NOT small cars.

You say if you want to spend 55k + on a car? I paid $83,240 for my new Aus spec Zed off the showroom floor in 1994. I would say, a new commodore would eat my zed. Dont compare worn out imports costing a third of the price, to a new state of the art car.

There is a reason photos of new cars always tend to show the sports version. It is because they look better in ads. however the general public might drool over them, in reality, they can normally only afford the base models.

how many times, have you seen ads for new cars, with prices starting from, say $20,000, and a picture of the car is displayed, with (in very small print) a notice saying, the model shown costs $60.000, and is not available in Australia?

I do have a bit of an idea of what goes on in the designing backrooms of Holden. You see, my son is a production engineer in the Innovations section of Holden in Melbourne. This is the section that designs all the new electronic goodys that are appearing on the new cars, like Head Up Display. He is currently in charge of developing a telemetric system, where a customer can plug a (one of the new generation types, eg G3) mobile phone into the electronic system, and a remote technician could diagnose faults, and alter parameters.
