It was due for a change

Had done a lot of thrashing on the old oil, 2 track days, lots of drag days.

Though it was time for a change, had the redline MT-90 in there, be like 8months ago when I put that one in, it says it lasts a life time, 400,000 km's but I don't trust it So I wanted to change it.

Started to develop a crunch into 4th gear from 3rd at the All 4's and rotary's track day, figured it was time for a g box fluid change after that, didn't get round to it as I lost my licecne so wasnt really using the car, went to another track day on Friday, crunching was still there, seemed to be a bit worse, even light driving and shifting into 4th would crunch.

Though I would chuck some redline light weight shockproof in it this time, as My mate put it in his old rolla that crunched every gear and it was silky smooth after.

But don't think it will be much help to me, if my box is missing insert springs lol...

    Somethig must be broken, for

the springs to come out off there sleeve. the sleeve could have come away from the O/D counter gear.
Or its broken and now disperseing the bits around
the other componts. Its time to get the box out!

Those pics will go in the BlackiceTT file too Scott!

Damn...I have never seen a sump plug like that. The kids dirt bikes had magnetic sump plugs and they would look like tiny porcupines, but recognisable pieces???? Thats a first.

Well it still drives fine, just crunch from 3rd to 4th unless

    You match the revs well.

thanks m8 ..... was thinking more along the lines of knowing what was

going on in the nether, out of sight regions of one's vehicle .. how often should one be considering g/b-
transmission oil change ..?? ... from memory, i think gerry's transmissions(gold coast) recommended 20,000km for my auto ..???:unsure::unsure::unsure:

    Seen these before----

they are synchro retaining clips which would explain your crunching 3rd to 4th.

There is a magnet inside the sump on your auto Baz

Not unusual to find very fine metal particles stuck to the magnet. But what Scotty has:angry: not good at all:sick:

    Seconded!

They are the Syncro Retaing Clips.... That will be the 3-4th problem.... A little while after I found a few of thouse in the gbox it stripped 2nd gear..... Careful now

Is that right? I am planning a manual conversion when my other Zed gets

here, but I don't want to go to all that trouble if a better box could be fitted with a bit of extra effort.

Has anyone done (or know of) a successful 5 (or 6!!) speed gearbox conversion? (and yes I have seen the link on the 350Z gearbox conversion. Unfortunately I already have a second mortgage on my house so that box is out of the question).

    Cheers:zlove:

    Yer thats right IMO

We only find out after blowing the clutch, then
upgrading to something heavier, that the fading
clutch was shielding the gearbox. In older cars
thats how it goes, lucky nissan make strong difs.
I dont no off anyone who has converted to another
stronger setup, its, as you would know, be good idea
to have your new G/B throughly inspected before
    you do the conversion.
