We finally found the time to do some tinkering on the slot car as we suspected there was more power to be found. The car was consistently making 330rwkw. With this sort of power and as power comes on so low and so much of it and hard to keep it on the black stuff at the track as it was we thought pretty good. But as the saying goes good is the enemy of better, I said to my two dyno guru's I want more power find it, and start with adjusting cam gears. Not a quick thing to adjust. Bottom line they checked the CAM profile and calculated and brain stormed etc and adjusted. Bingo went to 369rwkw with no loss bottom end. You reading this Gene (Extasea). They tinkered a bit and trial and error and found could get more boost. Had to get more guys to sit in the boot as tyres were bald and finished up with 384rwkw. Also tinkered with a new custom water injection system that works off boost and works great and we were able to do multiple runs with temps keeping cool.
Going to the Skylines Australia drag day this Sat which I have been revving them about to line up their Skylines. I said we should run a 11 sec. Never competed in a drag thing but looks easy.

Whats the spool up like compared to stock?

How do the S15 turbos compare to the stock ones in terms of spool up/ low down power?

I'm assuming you've still got stock manifolds on (albeit probably smoothed).

John, you said you could get more boost after tinkering, just wondering

    what exactly you mean.

Do you mean you caould run a bit more boost before detonation?

Or you could run a bit more boost with the same EGT's?

Or could run a bit more boost now, but before the turbos wouldn't produce any more??

just wondering which one it is. Great figures though, are they stock S15 turbos or have they been modified with bigger internals?

Also interested to see the dyno charts, are the s15

turbos stock? Seem to be making really good power!! For the price you can pick up a new s15 turbo here it seems like a good investment if the power curve is similar to that of the pe's and stock turbos! Are s15 turbos T28 ball bearing??

any good news about a power gain.
Otherwise, why would anyone VTD a perfectly interesting article, that may inspire other members to try what John has to increase their power output.
Perhaps John, they are Skyline drivers.:LOL::LOL:
I hope that you will inform us of your exploits at the track this weekend. Go the slot car.
Oh and by the way mate, there's just a little bit more to Drag Racing, than just dropping the clutch & tramping on the gas pedal.:LOL:
    Cheers Mate

thought the same thing lol, vtd just makes me laugh

nowdays. I for sure am becoming convinced with the s15 turbos. Apparantly it made 200rwkw on 3000rpm which is similar to the pe1420s. For the price of an s15 turbo how can you go wrong?

Nope there is a fair amount of difference

although we still dont have any dynos yet of Johns. From his old ones though hes making a lot of power down low, so If hes managing 360rwkw on pump and 380 with water injection and more boost (i.e. racegas equivalent) then the S15s curve is more to the left and broader then what Im getting on PE1420s. I dont know though if thats just the turbos or due to the mods on Johns engine though. I have a feeling that if someone else strapped some s15s to their car they wont get anywhere near the same curve, though that would be really good for comparison. Has anyone got the flow details on the s15s?? Im really curious how much difference the higher compression John is running is making to his power curve. Also John what cams are you running and tell us more about what points you found best for the cam gears.

Re: Also interested to see the dyno charts, are the s15

so s15 turbos are definatley Garret GT28RS??
$1k is almost half the price ive been quoted up here for those turbos - I'll be doing some melbourne shipping i think unless someone can enlighten me otherwise :p

Then it would be fair to say that if someone slapped on

pe1420's without the mods you have, their curve would be way different as well? Also was the 380rwkw run done with the water injection? Guess no one can tell until we see the dyno chart? Im just going by what i heard about the 200rwkw @ 3000rpm. That sounds good enough for me considering the amount you would spend on the turbos after the mods.

The whole truth will lie in the 1/4 mile times. Thats all we can all really go by.

ZisLuv did you manage to get down to the track yet?

    Yeah I would think so

as there are about 5 other PE1420 dynos to compare it to now, all but one have made over 500rwhp and curves are reasonably similar although in ones with stock manifolds the curve is a bit to the right (laggier). Mods are quite variable between them so you can get a reasonable idea.
I havent seen 200rwkw at 3000rpm before Johns car on any turbo setup which is why I think its engine rather than turbo. If people start doing a few of these though I guess we can find out.

Just waiting on some rims for my tyres atm. Had some from Franz but they didnt quite fit. Plus new clutch is on its way but it shouldnt be too much longer I hope.

    Thats Unreal johnny boy

ye for sure when i get some more money or think about this one you become a huge sponsor of my car and do it for absolutely one huge hug that sounds even better hey:thumbsup: Haha. Those figures are really good i thought originally it wasn't a heap considering what you had done but it all has come to fruition. Mine is next:thumbsup:

Do you have links to these dyno charts and thier setups? Also what do you mean by stock manifolds? Are they custom manifolds or stock shape but ported?

Also just to clarify, you mentioned the s15 curve is more to the left and broader, does that mean less lag but slower spool than your pe1420s?

    Thanks agian.

    IB ?????

The 9:1 compression may have a lot to do with ...>>

the bottom end power. The higher compression also helps to spool up the turbos.
