So someone crashed into my Zed

So today, the 3rd day of having my Zed running I got hit by a Black Outlander, what are the odds! So here is the story:

The Outlander was trying to turn down Koetong place, he waited and the traffic from the lights ahead was already stopped and I was stationary in the banked traffic after the keep clear zone. The Outlander turned down the keep clear zone and had to cut 3 lanes to get to Koetong place and a speeding Commodore in the far left lane smashed right into the Outlander and the Outlander spun out and hit me right on the back passengers side corner.

The Outlander and Commodores were both ride offs, my Zed however after its 304,531KM was strong as ever and only suffered a puncher-ed back bumper and cracked back wiper water bottle (gave me a heart attack at first as I thought the dripping water was fuel).

    Heart break:

So now I learned after the person who hit my car doesn't have insurance (after he lied to me face to face today saying he did) I have to wait on my insurance company to cover me up to 3K and hopefully fix this damage.

At least I walked away with my 22 yr/old Zed still in functioning condition, and the fairly new Outlander and Commodore were both written off.

    Good to cruise away:

Unpleasant looking at it now, but hopefully my insurance will chase up with the guy who hit me and I will get this fixed. If worst comes to worst how hard would it be for me to repair myself ? costs, etc.

    Thanks guys!

Unlucky mate, but lucky at the same time that you weren't injured by the acts of other ignorant drivers.

Best of luck with the insurance claims!

    Ooooo that may be fixable.
If you have some good handy mates in a back yard.
How's the back wheel turning, is it still aligned.
Sledgy it out if you want to keep driving ?

But then the insurance company dollars. How sentimental is it.

let me start by saying insurance should be compulsory i think the stats for where i live are 40% have it(Bendigo- hour and a half north of melb)

bad place to be hit because the rear isnt too hard to replace and paint but if that panel cant be hit out (and even if it could itd have to be bogged up probably and it would fall out in a year) you will have to get a cut and shunt. 4 door right? shouldent be hard to find another panel at a wreckers for your insurance company.... still they will take their time

Ehh, don't you mean 4 seater?

But yeah, I'd be replacing that. Don't bother fixing it yourself.

James thats sad to hear especially after how long it took to get it back on the road...im sure they will find the guy or we can :) just think positive and that no lives were lost as that is the main thing :) zeds can be replaced but not lives :) glad you are allrite :)

Give me a call tommorow during business hours as i have tommorow and tuesday off work...i can take you down to my panel beater as i have always used him and i have never had a problem with him. You can get your insurance people to get him to do the job. Im sure he will help you out :) let me know if i can do anything :)

Most important part of this story is that your shoes match your Zed, nice bit of accessorising there mate :D

Nar, just stirring. Glad you're not damaged, that's the most important part. Good luck with the insurance & repairs :)

Thanks guys for all your comments. The Zed is a 2+2Auspec. I know a wrecking yard that has a Jspec rear bumper, but I know the Jspecs are a little more different to the 2+2 Auspecs. Would the rear panels and bars be interchangeable between my Auspec and a 96 Jspec?

If they are not I hope my insurance repairers don't attempt to fit Jspec parts on my Zed.

If it's 2+2 jspec then yes the parts are interchangeable. Rear end parts from a 2+0 jspec won't however. Only difference between the jspec and ausspec 2+2 rear bars are the numberplate width and the reflectors.

I think you somewhat got out of that incident fairly lightly. The panel in the right hands could be messaged back into near serviceable use. With a minor skim of bog. Failing that a graphed panel could be used. But again would need skilled hands. Very thin steel.

See what you insurance company comes up with first. No point jumping the gate. Hopefully they'll fix it for you. And burn the outlanders hands for lying. Stupid fool, lies about insurance only get you so far.

Best of luck with it all.

Well spotted, and good job to the OP borrowing his sisters shoes so he can match his car. :p

Sorry, poor timing for harsh comments.

Anyway, the J-Spec bumper will fit if it's from a 2+2 but it will be visibly different to the Aus spec one which could be a hassle if/when you come to sell, people are going to know it's not the original one and are likely to to assume the worst (big rear end hit). May be worth seeing if you can find an Aus spec one.

As a few people have said, wait to see what your insurance company does first, then if you are not happy with that (you don't automatically have to accept what they come to you with) you can see what options you have. Not heaps of damage but it's in a tricky spot to fix, can't just un-bolt all the broken stuff and replace it. I'd be getting the panel shop to have a very good look at the fuel filler pipe down to the tank too, last thing you want is damage to that going un-noticed.

    Stupid people

I hate how people think just because they dont have insurance, that somehow they dont need to pay up and that it should be your problem to deal with.

Well if you got his number plates and license number I'm sure the insurance company from your side will be giving him a call.

3rd party property insurance should be made part of the rego cost like the 3rd party person. It costs like what? $5 a week???

Of course its not going to fix all the problems. There are still people stealing cars, driving unlicensed or unregistered etc..

I think the cost of fixing it would be low enough to not have to use it and lose your no claim bonus. (should the other guy disappear)

Wait, if I'm involved in an accident, and only have third party insurance, does that mean the other drivers has to pay for my repair costs (if the accident was their fault)?

    yes they have to pay

even if they dont have insurance themselves.

If they did a runner and your car was a write off and you did not have the full insurance then you would be stuffed as your 3rd party insurance would be useless for you.

Sorry to hear of your inccident mate. Looks like you got out of it fairly lightly though. So which car didn't have insurance as even though you say the commodore was speeding i'm thinking the Outlander caused it by turning in front of the Commodore thus failing to give way. Every time i hear it's someone who doesn't have insurance i automatically think it's a Commodore driver. I must be a Commodore racist but it's just my first thought for some funny reason.

You helped take a commonwhore off the road (kinda), wear the battlescars proud for a few weeks I say.

That section of the rear is pretty flat, wonder if just cutting out the folded bit and welding a bit of sheet metal into the folded section isn't a viable option. Pretty straight forward hit, no annoying curves to work round.
