There's plenty of big power Z's in Aus, I'm just going to build a great street motor with plenty of usable torque that doesn't need massive noisy fuel pumps and on the edge tuning. Something that can keep up with the blown V8 Calais daily driver
Pulled the front crossmember, front tie rods, and sway bar tonight, ready for detailing/painting etc. Pulled the engine wiring through the other day and re-installed the AC boxes. Lucky for me the steering rack and ends are in great condition, so I"ll probably just detail them and re-install with the motor and gearbox attached to crossmember and pulled up from under the car. Much easier with a freshly painted engine bay I would think.
much easier that way just make sure no harnes gets caught in the cross member and DO NOT forget the steering column sproket when lifting it up.... its a slut to put back in when all together. i may have stuffed that one up.
A little more along the way. Pulled the crossmember apart properly finally. Put the steering rack aside for painting while the crossmember gets sandblasted and powdercoated a pearl silver at this stage. Going to also do the lower suspension links and swaybar too. Would 11,000RPM be too ambitious?:br: Been a little distracted now that summer is here... Kind of mocking up a new cruiser for the summer atm. Think I'll have a go at making an extended and widened swingarm for the old girl. How good would a 300 or even 330mm rear tyre look?!? Slammed 1/2" off the ground and airbagged suspension
Hah, I wish Mike! Have had a thing for bikes for as long as I can remember. Like travellling light and taking off for who knows where.
Drop it like the did on OCC, Cadillac special.. Mmm jr's bike was awesome.. Nb, I done this on my iPhone, hope the pic works..
Made a support frame for the Z now the crosmember is off and will not be going back in until the motor is ready. Going to lift the whole motor/gearbox/crossmember etc in from underneath completely assembled. This support frame will allow me to move the Z around the workshop in the mean time. Bolts directly to the crossmember bolts. Don't tell me I'm a crap welder, I already know but was an opportunity to practice a little more. I didn't remove most of the galv before either and prepare a perfect platform for the welds, but when I did the welds went really well The two mounts in place under the chassis rails. Tucked away for a little bit while I rebuild a new motor... ... I need the room in the workshop because this... ...is going on this :br:
That Calais looks awesome. Love those blowers they are such a tidy kit. I'd love one of them one day Keep up the good work
Got the crossmember etc back from the powdercoaters finally. They had a bit of time off over Christmas period and so did their sandblaster. Decided to go gloss black in the end. Want to make a feature of the engine when it goes back in, not everything else in/under the bay. Blower is on the Calais, and making lots more power. Converted it to a manual gearbox too. Bike is steadily growing more cobwebs so time to do a little V6 engine work I guess
looks nice, wasnt there something that said powdercoating or something reduces the stregnth of the metal ? or was this total bs ?
