Hi, I have very recently bought a 1989 TT Z32 and am just wondering, what sort of boost are these V6's capable of and what power output it would be at maximum without risking breaking anything internally? A psi figure would be good so I can experiment over the next few weeks getting used to a tiny jap beast. Any help or opinions appreciated.

    Cheers
    Mitch

hi mate, 300hp at the wheels gives you decent performance and even on an old engine it should last a while.

you can push up to 400hp at the wheels but i wouldnt recommend this on a stock motor

unfortunately in stock trim its not the internals that will cause you issues, its things like injectors, max safe PSI is considered to be about 14, yes some can run more but I would not recommend any more, there are fuel pressure mods to raise this but then the turbos can be a limit at around 18-20 (depending on school of thought and condition and what time of day it is)

Mine is set at 14 that is more than enough to light the wheels of my auto up at almost any time I want. (but I got small tires).

to answer this question we need to know what mods you have..
its not the engine you need to worry about so much.

Get a full (turbo back) exhaust 2.5" , decent cats.
A pod filter... larger intercoolers or FMIC... then bump the boost up to around 14PSI

Should see you at 300rwhp area which is good performance and the engine (if your worried) should be fairly happy.

pushing higher would require you to get larger injectors, and probably turbo's.

My engine itself is 100% stock aside from a large custom single intercooler, huge aluminium radiator and a bigger trans cooler. Oh and a HKS Pod filter.

Am most definitely going to upgrade the exhaust when I can afford it, probably to a custom X-Force straight through 2.5 inch with volume controlled Varex mufflers and high flow cats a re a definite too.

Any recommendations how much I could bump the psi? And what boost controller do you recommend? I've heard a GReddy Profect B Series 2 is top notch for any force induced car.

ok.. if you want top notch for boost controller then get the Eboost2.. but.. otherwise the greddy Bspec II works a treat and fits in alot of places for a "stealth" install..

however you would still need a dyno tune done when doing this and i would not push the boost higher then 14 with stock turbo's and engine.. this should still see you push to about 300rwhp but... plenty of fun

Absolutely. Thanks for your advice mate. Will let you know how she goes when I get a controller and tuned up. :)

i ran 16psi with a chip and AFR @ 12.3, ran fine for years and i was really hard on it too.

    300-350rwhp is quite easily achieved

Oh yeah no worries. I have seen them all over ebay. I think it would be a better idea to leave it on stock boost (which is still plenty) until I get a decent digital boost controller e.g. Turbosmart or GReddy.

Let's say I wanted to go a higher boost than say 12-14psi and bump it to say 16-18psi. What bits and pieces would I need to change or modify to reduce the risk of costly damage down to next to nothing?

Performance enhancement and NO risk are mutually exclusive terms. The harder you push an engine the closer to the edge of failure any single component will get. Common opinion is the 14psi is the usefull limit of the stock turbos, any further than this and they just become heat pumps greatly increasing the risk of detonation. I suggest you read some of the post in the rebuilds section of the forum to get an idea of what is commonly done to go past the 300 rwhp with 'REALTIVE" safety

maybe even the Eboost street, bit cheaper, eboost 2 has alot of functions race cars and drag cars use, eboost street is simpler and probably a better option for street cars

Yeah. Sounds like the one I'd go. Not really going to be upping and downing the boost setting alot. Will stay steadily on one setting 99% of the time.

I have the Eboost street which is actually the eboost street 2. Disagree on max boost, I run 12psi which almost max's out my injector duty cycle. Wouldn't run 14psi on stock injectors ever. From what I've tested with datascan and nissan conzult 12psi is pushing it.

Really wish I could run 14psi with my upgraded exhaust, ic' pod ect but it wouldnt last long. :(

On the subject of the eboost street, it still has 2 seperate boost groups, with completly different settings and records max boost, rpm ect. its a great ebc. I posted a thread about it a while back.

it all depends on the car and the tune.

I was running 16psi on a good manual tt, at 95% duty cycle. no 2 caqrs are the same when it comes to boost vs injector duty

I still have the stock ecu unchipped. I'd really like to get it on a dyno and adjust boost according to datascan, finding safe roads to reach max boost at high rpm isnt easy around the Gold Coast.
