Tracking evil bloody z thieves - gps

There was no thread available in search on GPS so hence this post

All the alarms dont mean nothing - if the thieves want your Z that bad.
Even ferraris with lights/alarms flashing have been taken away on flatbeds.

Certainly an independant hidden cutout is handy to immobilise your car as part of a package as well as lots of alarm stickers and some flashy lights to deter the lesser gutsty Z mongrel thieves. But if they want it that bad they will take it regardless and with the Z being listed in the top 20 and ten best cars of all time we are at very high risk of these pesky thieving bastards, not to mention the TWIN TURBO sticker is a magnet for the worst kind of all - thieving joyriders who trash it:eek::mad::(

The only way to have piece of mind is getting it back quickly and this means GPS tracking, as long as it remains hidden and silent it is guaranteed to secure the vehicle and the Z thief as well for the public hanging and flogging in the courts of law by the Z loving judges, given my vehicles cost and magnetism I have decided to go to GPS
I'm getting it - I cannot afford not too - I got a price from one seller (most say well give quote send details - see below)

Being a premium service has any of the adminstrators or senior forum members previously looked into GPS tracking for Z's
Does anyone Senior think there is value in organising a special deal with our club for a percentage discount or group buy at reduced price with a company as part of a service as surely the club would be reccomending this type of pro-active security for all Z owners.

Surely there must be enough Z lovers and eager insurers out there to even have a service run by the club, but thats just my thoughts, what do senior members think.
I would be happy to go around and arrange an independant group buy deal or service but a better negotiation would take place if organised by a senior member with contacts and in the know of well established Z land.

    The price i mentioned earlier-
    CarWatch System $699
Installation $300 (prestige & exotic vehicles may be extra)
Monthly Monitoring $330 per annum or $29.95 pay by the month

Note: Minimum monitoring period is 12 months. Monitoring can be transferred if the vehicle is sold. All pricing includes GST and is current as at November 2008.

But apparently there are larger freight companies that do it for much less as they have huge fleets involved so the pricing is much better. Maybe one day this could progress to a well organised group buy and service (insurance/GPS deal for all of our members at heavily reduced prices (just like a fleet company can)) - so really do need some senior members to be involved and im sure most senior members / and expensive car owners have some coments or thoughts on doing such a group buy.

I dont want to chain it with 10 tonne chain links to a slab every night and have to feed 10 disciplined guard dogs every night just to get some sleep.

Thanks for taking the time and any input or thoughts
    Linda

I Dont know what gps your looking at. But there are kits for around 250-300. That use a sim card and u can track via google maps. And theres no fees at all, just need a sim card and a few cents when you track it.

Interesting, I know others already have this. We aren't actually a club tho. which seems worth pointing out.

    Hows this?
    http://gpstrackingsystems.biz/diy-anti-theft-tracking-for-your-car/82/

Over here at the quicky mart, 7-Eleven sells prepaid phones (no contract) where you can buy $25 worth of minutes that wont expire for one whole year. With the steps in the video, your looking at a real cheap setup.
Asking the police if they would go through the trouble of tracking a phone in a stolen car first would be a good idea too.

Personally I would place the phone underneath the car somewhere and nowhere inside or like by the dash because I wouldnt want the phone to have radiation deflect all inside the car every-time it updates it triangular position. Its a health conscious issues thing :)

Freedom of individual choice is still allowed in this country. Perhaps you may not support that point of view, but a large number of very competent Doctors around this planet are convinced of there being a risk associated with Mobile Phone usage/Radiation absorption.

Perhaps it would be better to stick to the topic at hand(instead of looking for some cheap points)?

yep.... its a huge scare that one.......

    BUT ......

There is a big reduction on your car insurance if you have such a system installed ;)
The reduction isnt $995 but it should bring the price down to an affordable level if you allready have car insurance, contact you insurer for more.
If your insurer wont drop the premium price then change insurance companies to one that will.... there's some big savings to be had without the de-valuing of the actual policy ;)

    A group purchase could also see a drop of $100 -$200... ;)

Close to 900Mhz wizzing through our heads when we use a mobile phone, how can it be safe? We are slowly getting cooked.

sounds like you work for them lol (do you?)

anyway, while loving your car is an awesome sentiment, and of course theives are SCUM and should never be allowed to get away with it.....

apart from that, there's also the reality that many Z owners would welcome an insuarance payout over what thier cars would net in a sale

Add to that that even being able to track the car wont save you in the event of a "joy ride" which as you said will often result in a car that's thrashed to the point of no return, crashed, or even burnt out
What's the point of tracking a wreck?

These are NOT the kind of cars that a "gang of pro car theives" will target so they can steal to order. Sorry to say but they are NOT in that league of car.

It would be good because then we can find the car ourselves and crack some skulls.

    no !

but I first came in contact with them working for another company. This company had their entire fleet of over 100 vehicles fitted with the tracker, I got mine as part of that 'group buy'..... cost was around the $400 mark.

    Agreed :D

Some of us would rather the car back in one piece too than getting a payout that is well under what we have spent on our cars.... often insurance wont come even close to covering the 'real' cost let alone the 'value'.

Did you actually read what the system is capable of doing remotely ???

I had car stolen purely for stripping, the car was dissabled via the tracking system and at a point on the road where police had a very easy arrest.

The system was able to cut the engine at a safe speed and at a point where police could intercept the vehicle without fear of the offenders escaping, the controller simply called me and advised me of the cars movements and he also contacted the police and advised them of the situation.
A co-ordinated recovery was done over the phone between myself, the system opperator, & police.
The car was recovered within 30mins of being stolen and 2 persons were charged ( later spent time at her majesty's pleasure :D )

As you can see .... 30 mins to a full vehicle recovery and arrest is damn quick for a country town, most joyriders in a metro situation would be caught far quicker.

In my situation I didnt even know the car had been stolen untill the company called me and asked where the car was, I replied in the shed.... they asked me to check ..... I did and it wasnt there !!!, they then told me "thats because we're tracking it doing 112kph on suchnsuch road"

I was able to moniter the vehicles movement on the laptop via a link through the system supplier and a point on the road was chosen where the vehicles speed would be at a safe speed for an engine kill. This chosen point was also accepted by the police opperator as a point for the 'bust'

Rregardless of who steals ya car and for what purpose, the faster the notification the higher the chances of a full recovery, had I not of had this system fitted then the cars dissappearance wouldnt have been noticed for atleast 24hours.... leaving it in someone elses shed in stripped parts or in the scrub smouldering.

do you know exactly where your car is right now......

    ARE YOU SURE ?

by the time you've read this post your car could be several blocks away and a system opperator could be calling you right now.....

or you could go n check that the car IS there....

Hope you dont have a sleepless night

No actually. Too many words...not enough pictures.....of chicks.....with thier tops off

    Yes it's in my garage

Yes...I can see it from my lounge window :D :zlove:

I hear what you're saying and yes with remote kill switch that's pretty cool

However I still think it's only the extra special minority of Z32's that would warrent such a system.

I wouldn't even do it for my 350Z (or would I?)
Insurance payout would buy me a low K ex dem 370Z hard top :zlove:

Much as I love my car...it's just a car.

Not as good as you think. I had GPS tracking in my last car and thought about it for the Z too but I don't know if it will help anymore. If you do a simple google search you will find there are plenty of GPS blockers from china.. I don't know how good they are but I don't feel for a gps tracker with this in mind :(

A remote kill switch would be pretty easy to do. Find an old mobile phone, gut it, and connect the wires that come from the speaker to a relay and then to the fuel pump (or something else that will stop the engine). Just make the tone something constant or connect it to the LCD screen as most phones light up when getting a call.
